Question about HP Pavilion Slimline S7410N Notebook

1 Answer

Will not power up

Last week we had mouse problem with randome outage, mouse quit working. i am using usb optical mouse. then it stopped working all together. at that point the monitor was just a rolling screen. when i rebooted windows would start up then shortly after i would get rolling screen again. the last time i rebooted using power button on front it will not power up anymore. if i hold power button in what sounds like the harddrive and or cooling fan does run but as soon as i release button it stops. the button does "click" when pushed but no lights come on indicating harddrive power and windows will not boot.
i am guessing it is motherboard not telling P S to power up with the softstart button?
what i have: HP PAVILLION SLIMLINE S7410N
it has worked flawlessly for less then a year. by the time this gets fixed warranty will fix pc

There is a known issue with the GPU on these boards going out. thats why you have the strange rolling on the screen. i have sent some units in to hp to get new motherboards.

send it in, after that i believe you will at least have 90 days on the repair.

call hp and they will send you a box, you should get it back in 7-10 biz days last i checked.

in some cases on the s3000 series they have added an extended 12 mos to original purchase dat or before 12.31.09 whatever is first.

get it done now before its too late

Good Luck!

IBM ThinkPad T40, when connected to docking station the laptop will randomly stop working with USB connected items like mouse, keyboard, printer all connected to USB ports on docking station.

Try a power adapter with more amperage. When you connect a dock, the 3 amp adapter that comes with IBM laptops will not have enough power for lots of add-ons. You'll need the 4 amp adapter.

Laptop mouse problem

This is a common problem with laptops, unfortunately, there is no real solution of fixing the touch pad.
The best solution is to use an external usb mouse.
I recomend an optical mouse, they cost about 5 US dollars.

Usb mouse

here is what you can try,

1. try to connect the usb mouse in the other usb ports to check if it works
2. try another usb mouse.

if the usb mouse works in other ports and not in some of them...USB ports gone bad.
if it does not work anywhere, the mouse has gone bad. also to check the usb ports check if keybaord works or not. if yes..its just the mouse. it cost approximately $10. go and get a new one.

USB powerloss?

As you have already stated that the port in question can run a standard optical mouse, the port seems to be working fine.

Sometimes the drivers for a USB device need to be installed for each USB port. Maybe you have installed these drivers for 3 of your 4 USB ports, but not for the one in question, result of which is the problem you face.
