Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Hi. My problem is that I can not use the internet with my laptop. We have a router/broadband and all of my flatmates can use the internet, even those who have Vista. I first thought it was because of Vista because I have it as well. My laptop is brand medion. It is said that it is error 815. My laptop is german, the broadband irish. maybe that is the problem. Don't know.I'm desperate. Help me please!

I've found on a forum that the error 815 means that your Internet Service Provider server is not responding. You have to check your connection's settings (username and password for your ISP, DHCP config). And, see if the connection by default is the right one (not the dial-up), in Tools, Internet Options, Connection Tab and select Never dial.

Give me a website of complete broadband internet installation

SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION
First you need to decide what type of broadband and Internet service you require and these are -
1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line.
2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service.
3. A wireless 3G network uses the mobile/cell phone network and can be separate or combine with your cell phone account. This type of Internet connection uses an USB wireless device shaped like an USB memory stick.
Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include a modem/wireless router.

If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service then your laptop with a wireless card can then connect to the Internet. You can also connect to a free WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc. using the wireless card in your laptop.
If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service.
Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and the cost of the various plans.
Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installation CD.

Here what is happen my sister law had a Belkin router that went bad she got a norther Belkin router not the same one but it a Belkin here what going on she try to hook it up and she Chang to use broadband...

The ISP modem connects to the wireless routers main port. Then connect the PC to any other port on the router.

Use the default wireless settings that Belkin provides. There is a small tag under the unit with the default information. Or, use custom settings in the web admin.

Hi we have broadband and lately i have to keep turning off modem to connect to the internet. this fixes it for awhile then have to turn off again? please can you help

Do you have a router connected to your broadband connection? If so, you might have to update the firmware on that router. If you don't have a router on your broadband system, I would get in touch with your Internet Service Provider to see about a replacement modem.

Good Luck

I have a laptop comp i just got a desk top comp i have embarq broadband internet which comp do i pit the cd into to install and which comp do i hook up the embarq box to?

It sounds as though you will need to get router to allow the sharing of the Internet between the two computers. Using a router makes it much easier to share an Internet connection between multiple computers. You would connect the Embarq box to the router on the WAN port, and then connect your computers to the LAN ports of the router. You may also want to get a wireless router in the event your laptop has a Wi-Fi connection.

I have recently moved house from a virgin broadband connection taking my router and lap top with me. My new home has existing virgin broadband. Having plugged everything in as should be my laptop finds the...

Try reseating te broadband connection to the router.

It soundslike your router works if it connects to your laptop with a great signal. But its not sending any information through.

Try reseating. if it does not work. you might need to do a fresh reinstall of the router. Usually the broadband connections attach itself to a mac address of a network card. If you recently put a new router the network cards MAC address is different and it might not send signals through. like for me for cable i have the same issue.

Try this let me know how it does. If any problems please let me know.

I hope this helps

Have you accessed and setup your wireless part of the modem?

To access the router settings menu, you will first need to log into the Wireless router following the steps below:
Open Internet Explorer
In the address bar type the following address:
192.168.0.1

You will be prompted to enter a Username and Password to access the interface, please use the following default details:
Username: This can be found on the bottom of the router
Password: This can be found on the bottom of the router

From the list on the left hand side, click on ‘Router Status’.
Within the Router Status section there are two areas you will be able to access:

Show Statistics
Connection Status

The Router Status page gives you a detailed status overview of the connection configured on the Wireless router.
Click ‘Connection Status’ to see more information on the broadband connection.
If you have already configured your broadband, you are able to establish/terminate the connection by clicking Connect/Disconnect.
You can also click ‘Show Statistics’ to show you current connection speed and more information on your Broadband connection.
Clicking on Basic Settings enables you to check all the Internet settings of your Broadband connection. Including the Login name (username) and password, IP address and type of connection.
Clicking on ‘Test’ will perform a standard check of your Internet connection and settings.
ADSL SETTINGS
The ‘ADSL Settings’ section provides you with some more information about your Internet connection. These are:
Multiplexing Method
VPI
VCI
WIRELESS SETTINGS
This section gives you full information regarding the Wireless connection. From here, you can change security settings, the SSID (Name) of the router and the access control list. Options list from:
Name(SSID) virgin broadband (default)
Region Europe(default)
Channel 11(default)
Mode g&b(default)
Enable Wireless Access point
Allow broadcast name
Security options (None, WEP and WPA)
- hope this helps
