Question about Uniden TRU8885-2 Cordless Phone

1 Answer

Uniden cordless phones

My phone has two handsets. Both handsets have suddenly stopped working. The speakerphone on the base works. Both handset screens show readouts and if I dial a number the screen shows the seconds being ticked off--but no dialtone or any sound on either handsets. The mute is off. Privacy is off. Everything is plugged in and the charge light is lit when the handsets are on their bases. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Uniden cordless phones

This sounds like the register-deregister problem elsewhere on this page. Try holding down the "end" and "#" buttons for about 6 seconds to deregister the phones and then reregister them. I had this problem too and it worked for me.

Phone says searching

Bring the handset that says searching into the same room as the base and see if the handset stops searching. Next unplug the handset batteries (yes from all handsets) and the base power cord (from both the base and the wall outlet). Wait a few minutes and then reconnect the batteries and base power cord. Next try to de-register and then re-register the handsets. (If you add a comment with the phone model, I'll help you with this step. Uniden has the manuals for their phones on their site: .)

If this doesn't help, next try a new battery (and make sure that the battery is fully charged) for the phone. (If the phone is under warranty, contact Uniden. Note: batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. This includes the time on the shelf in the package.)

If a new battery doesn't help, then there is something wrong with the handset. Decide if it is worth having the unit fixed if the phone is out of warranty.

I hope this helps.

(I'm assuming that both handsets are cordless. If you have a corded/cordless model, then check that the base has power before you go farther with the above diagnostics. The power brick should be warm. We had a cordless phone on a power strip (UPS) that got turned off. The handset was searching for a signal that wasn't being sent. If you have power to the base, try sending the Find Handset message. The problem could be either the base or the handset not sending and receiving the signals between them.)

How do I turn on my speakerphone for my Uniden EXP4540?

Sorry, Uniden EXP4540 2.4 GHz does not have a speaker phone feature. The cordless phone features AutoTalk™ and AutoStandby™. AutoTalk™ allows you to answer a call by just removing the handset from the base so you don't have to waste time pushing buttons. AutoStandby™ allows you to hang up by simply returning the handset to the base. You can check it's manual with this link
Thanks for using fixya!

My cordless phone says "to register see owners manual for help" How do I get the phone working, it is a uniden DECT 6.0 Model DECT 1588-2

With the phone in standby, press MENU/SELECT on the base.
Move the cursor to select the Register Handset menu, and then press MENU/SELECT. Handset Registering will appear.
On the handset, press and hold # until the handset beeps and displays Handset Registering.
When the handset has registered to the base, the LCD will display Registration Complete then show the handset ID number.
If the display shows Registration failed, repeat the process again.
Note: If a handset has ever been registered to a base, reset the handset before you register it to a new base

I am having problem with my cordless phone.

Another tip is to remove the battery from the handset for at least 5 seconds. You might want to get a voltage meter and check the voltage on that new battery - maybe it isn't charging properly.

ELBT595 Handset Not Turning On

Check the handset battery -- if there is a slight "bulge" on one side (ie: not COMPLETELY flat) then the problem is with the battery. I had that problem and had to order a new one. That said, I just installed the new battery, and while it now charges, the handset won't connect to the base unit. The base unit works (tried the speakerphone), but there is not connection between base and handset.

Handset Buttons Stopped Working - Full Battery

Here is a link to Uniden's site, and on the right side of the page, there is a link for a download manual pdf and helpline

also worth checking if any buttons are stuck, or if the handset is set to pulse rather than tone mode, or if it has had a tumble or knock, possibly the keypad connector has come loose .

Hope this helps.
