Question about GE GSS22JFMWW Side by Side Refrigerator

Ice Maker works but water dispenser does not.

My GE side by side fridge does not dispense water. About a year ago it stopped working for about 6 months then out of the blue it started working again. Well it stopped again, I checked the line (disconnected it under the door and triggered the water dispenser and water shot out) so the problen seems to be between the door and the spout. any ideas?

I followed the tube from the fridge. It goes in at the bottom of the freezer door and there is a connection there I disconnected it and when I activate the water dispenser water comes out at the bottom of the freezer onto the floor. The problem seemes to be between the bottom of the freezer door and where the water comes out at the spigget in the dispenser. Im totally confused..

OK I fixed it... Im sure it was due to a frozen line. I turned down the temp on the freezer side to 1 (the lowest setting) then used a hair dryer for about 5 min. It took another hour on the 1 setting to finally start working, I was just about to give up and pushed a glass in and water started to trickle out. I filled 10 glasses until the water came out full speed. Thanks for the help....

The most common cause is a frozen water line. A Water Tube Heater WR49X10173 will fix it. It fixed mine. You can call GE and tell them your problem, and if you're kind and persistent, they will send you a free heater kit. Worked for me. Otherwise check eBay.

Rumor has it this problem is caused by water vapor getting absorbed by the foam insulation inside of the freezer door, and then the insulation doesn't insulate as well, and the cold from the freezer reaches the water line.

However...about a year later, your problem will be back.

As time passes, it will absorb more moisture, and the heater kit will not work anymore. I've seen several posts where the problem came back, with no solution.

So here's your permanent fix-ya:

Buy a second heater kit, and remove the foil sticky wrapper from the wire. The center portion between the black heat-shrink portions is the actual heater; the other end wires are normal wire.

Wrap the center portion tightly around right where the water tube comes out of the door, just below the ice dispenser flapper. Put some large heat shrink (not electrical tape - it won't hold) over the two existing heat shrink portions to hold the loop tight against the dispenser tube. I then put some aluminum foil tape, used for sealing duct work, over the loop and onto a portion of the dispenser tube, to hold it in place.
Connect it the same way electrically, so you now have two heaters in the circuit.

Then reassemble. You will need to take a Dremel tool to widen the hang-down actuator that your glass pushes on to dispense, around the dispenser tube. I needed about a 3/4" wide slot. This is because it will hit the coil of heater wire. Also be sure wires are out of the way behind this actuator as you reassemble everything, or the switch won't work reliably.

Mine had been frozen solid for a year, and it started working in the 2-3 minutes after I connected the front panel, which powers the heaters. Amazing!

The theory I used to come up with this solution is this: put gently heated air up the dispenser pipe, and it will steam the ice away. Voila!

Enjoy your water dispenser.

And yes, it's a very bad design, putting a water tube through a freezer door. What were they thinking?

Why is my GE (ZFSB23D SS) side by side refrigerator leaking at the back corner, near the rear wheel where the plastic water line goes in?

If the tubing is plastic it could have cracked when you moved the tubing to install the filter. If the tubing is OK then possinly the filter isn't all the way in or is leaking.

GE Fridge water dispenser working but not the ice

Yes you most likely have a defective dual water control valve. Look around the inside of the refrigerator for a model number.

  • Bottom Freezer
Once you find the model number I will be able to tell you what part number the dual dual water control valve is or if your ice maker assist you in testing ice maker. If ice Maker is empty try filling with tap water to top edges of ice maker, allow water to freeze and if the ice drops into the ice bin but does not refill with water automatically I would say that the dual water control valve will need replaced. If your ice maker has old shrinking ice from a few days ago it will point to an ice maker problem.

My icemaker has stopped receiving water

it sounds like your water valve is bad. you have a double water valve - one side operates the ice maker and the other side operates the water dispenser. the ice maker side of the valve is bad.

you can manually pour a little water in the ice maker ice mold and wait an hour or so - if it dumps the ice then you know for sure that the ice maker is cycling and water is not getting to the ice maker from the water valved

Door dispenser stopped dispensing, starting making a constant clicking and now the entire fride isn't working

We had the same problem. Our frigerator is 1.5 year old. Everytime we try to dispence water or ice the dispencer clicks and the whole thing turns of. We had a GE repairman come by: the electronic board needs to be replaced: total cost $350. (cost of the board only: $150. We are considering disconnecting the dispencer by unplugging the board (according to the repain man the ice maker wil still work)or buy a new refrigurator (for sure NO GE!!!!!!)
