The heater could be bad but you need a volt tester to check there are thermastats and thermal fuses that can stop the heat as well as the breaker the unit may run but not heat if one side of the breaker is triped or bad

SOURCE: I have a Whirlpool Gas Dryer LGV6848AWO.

the ignitor bar that lights the gas might not be coming on, the coils that open the gas valve in the dryer might not be opening the valve, or the flame sensor might be bad which would not allow power to the ignitor. these are the most common problems with whirlpool gas dryers

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer model LEB6000PQ0 its not heating

check your breaker first.A dryer will run on 110 but wont heat.if not breaker it could be your thermal fuse or element.the thermal fuse is located on element cage, unplug machine and test for continuity to your thermal cut off fuse which will be the top one on cage and check continuity to element.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Estate Dryer TGDS840JQ1 dryer runs but

when you say heat up is it at least getting warm...
you may have a igniter gone bad or your thermostat may have failed... your igniter is what has to ignite the gas to burn to make it hot. If its electric then your heating coil has failed and needs to be replaced

The dryer wont heat-it over 5 hrs to dry a load. it would not turn off on automatic side & just keeps running. it turned off on the timed side

If it's not making heat the humidity sensor will never dry out, therefore it keeps running. It sounds like your heating element is bad.
