It would be a good idea since you smell rubber or oil to have the
machine checked at a sewing machine shop

This saved me between 20.00 for a pedal without the lead and 45.00 for a replacement with a D plug. Anyone worried about doing this should think of taking a suppressor of a car radio which reduces the interference or fuzz on a old tv's. Removing the suppressor has not affected my radio or TV. Thank you very much indeed.

Undo the foot control and take out the small square suppressor and throw it away, you don't need it anymore.

SOURCE: My Viking 5710 starts to sew without any pressure on foot pedal

Mine does the exact same thing. I think the problem might lie in the cord to the foot pedal. The cord packs into the foot pedal for storage, which forces the cord to to remain bent during storage. I believe the wires in mind became damaged and broken so I took it apart and reconnected the wires at the spot where the connector meets with the wires. But I still don't leave it plugged in if I'm not using it, it could be a fire hazard.

Bought an old Singer 507. Worked for about half an hour and then the spinning piece under the bobbin stopped spinning. So it does not make a stitch. I am hoping that it is something simple. HELP.

I think your talking about the hook race? Take the bobbin out and put one drop of oil in it. The oil is household oil for sewing machines and some things which i can't think of any of them. Singer has an oil that's really for any sewing machine. I'm not sure what to do if that doesn't work. I would take it out, only if you are comfortable with that, because you will have to put it back in correctly. I hope the oil helps.

My machine starts sewing when I turn the off & on switch. It will not stop

Replace your foot pedal--it's stuck! You didn't mention the model of machine that you have, but you can usually replace it on eBay by doing a search on your model machine.

HOW TO FIX SINGER SEWING MACHINE MODEL 223; GREASE WAS USED AND MACHINE IS FROZEN THOUGH MOTOR SEEMS TO BE RUNNING OK

Make sure no thread is caught in shuttle, or around bobbin case, etc. Check "plate teeth" also. Manually turn handle/wheel to engage and slow press pedal.

Is there a burning smell of rubber? Bad motor. Check warranty.

My foot pedal started smoking on my Singer 413 Sewing Machine

Hi.

No solution I'm afraid - but it has just happened to me too on a 1975 singer 522 Machine. Like you just switched it off and am now sourcing a new pedal....did have a look inside the pedal but nothing obvious - smells horrible though and will not use until replaced.
