A couple of questions first? OK?

The display adapter you have added in, does it have VGA out (blue) DVI out (white) or just DVI? Your monitor, is it flat screen? And does it have VGA in or DVI in or both? If both, you would have unpacked a VGA to DVI adapter, indicating it can take either. Same with the Display Adapter, if it unpacked with a DVI to VGA adapter included it means the DVI can be extended to a VGA adapter with no problems. This point I'm driving at can cause a problem where everything is connected correctly and the BIOS setup correctly but no signal still remains onscreen.

Let me know, what it is or what you recall. I can take you through the sequence of switching over without trouble, the logic is clumsy on first use, to move off the onboard to an add in.

I presonally think the motherboard should be smart enough to sense the load and make the switch automatically.

And, if you weren't aware, displays are hot swappable. However, it is always advisable to power down the board when moving displays off one adapter to another. The MB can remain energized its just prudent to power down and extend the life of your equipment.

    Regards,

Emachines t5082- i pulled out the 512 mb chip of pc2-4200 533mhz that came in in the computer stock, and replaced with two 1gb chips pc2-4200 533mhz ( the computer has a max of 2 gb via two 1gb max slots)...

1)Check for BIOS update from emachines. Older computer may need updated BIOS to handle the increased memory.

2) If it does start up but the computer crashes or it will not load windows, Verify the sticks are error free with a memory diagnostic program like memtest. If the sticks have errors, get them replaced.

I have a emachine t5082. I am trying to install new graphics card. How do i set the primary display to pci

Go into the BIOS, it will be in there...I don't remember where off hand, it won't be hard to find though.

Shut down your computer and wait for it to power down. Press the power button and look for a message that says "Press X to enter Setup." In most eMachines, this will be either the "F1" or "F2" key.

I have an emachines t5082 and tried installing 2GB (2x1GB) they are a 2-pack, DDR2 6400's The board sees 1GB but when I put both in it won't even give me a boot screen or anything, just a black screen. Is...

eMachines recommends DDR2 at 533MHz.
(PC2-4200)

A lot of ram memory manufacturers, state you can use DDR2 at 667MHz. (PC2-5300)

This is a logical statement due to the fact that a lot of motherboard chipsets, (Northbridge chip specifically),
will allow ONE step up in ram memory frequency rate.

You are going Two steps up.
Who told you this would work?
This is erroneous.
(Mean that in a nice sort of way)

PC 6400 is DDR2 at 800MHz.

Your eMachines T5082 motherboard uses an ATI Radeon Xpress 200 motherboard chipset.

This chipset will only support DDR2 at 667MHz at best.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xpress_200

Suggest you send that ram back, and get PC2-5300.

I going to buy a emachine et116107 today and i

That particular model has PCI-Express slot for optional upgrades. So if you decide to upgrade the graphics look for anything with a PCI-E label or PCI-Ex16. If you do get a new card make sure to disable the onboard graphics in the system BIOS prior to installing new card. Instructions can be found via google search

T5082 CF reader problem

If your comfortable opening the case, I would try disconnecting the reader from the mother board, and then reconnecting it. Sometime reseating the connections will fix it. Usually however the hardware is bad. If this is the case, you can get a replacement here
http://www.skyline-eng.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=6082 IT's a little pricey though, may want to watch for the part number on Ebay.
