In door ice dispenser does not work but the water dispenser does.
I have a side by side GE refrigerator it is about 11 years old works great except the ice dispenser stopped working, no warning. The water dispenser works great.
I have the Whirlpool Gold side-by-side serial #2028787 for 4years and this is my first negative experience. It has bee working great, however the Icemaker stopped producing ice, and the Infrared Ice Control light all of suddened stopped coincidently at the same time the Icemaker stopped producing ice. Although, the refrigerator still allows water to come out. Any suggestions as for me to perhaps recitify this situation? Many Thanks- Chris

The water line is freezing in the door due to deteriorated insulation. The only fix I have found to work on my fridge was to defrost the inside door with a blow dryer. Then place a weedeater replacement line (the orange 10" or so size you find at Lowes' or Home Depot) up through the dispenser nozzle, If the line only travels about 3-4 inches up the nozzle, then ice is still in the tube. Blow dry it until you are able to get water to dispense. After the tube is ice-free, place the weedeater line up throuth the dispenser nozzle leaving about 1/8" sticking out. The dispenser will still work with the line stuck in it. The dispenser will probably freeze again in about 8 hours, But all you need to do each time this happens is to pull the weedeater line out, dispense the water to unclog the ice, and place the weedeater line back in the nozzle. I have been using this method for about a week now and it works great. My GE Side-by-side is also 4 years old and this seems to be a problem with all of them. There is a part you can order to fix the problem, but I have heard it may not work.
The water dispenser on my GE profile fridge stopped working for a couple days. The refrigerator and freezer temperatures have fluctuated over the past several months causing fridge items to periodically freeze and freezer items to periodically thaw. GE tech came today identified a bad circuit board, which he replaced for a cool $300. Ouch. Fridge is only three years old. Oh yeah, the icemaker also has a broken tab which causes it to jam every couple weeks. We have GE Profile appliances throughout our kitchen and they all work great except for the fridge :-( I hope GE engineers read this post. If so, get to work! LOL
check to make sure there is water or ice in your ice maker tray. If none then problem is usually a water supply issue to the ice maker. Behind the frig are the water supply inlet valves. One is for the water dispenser in the door. THe other is for the ice maker. However when one goes bad they both are replaced as one unit. Also Check position of fingers in ice maker. If not in a vertical position
then try to reset the ice maker unit and worse comes to worse, replace
it with a new one.
