My 350D cannot take a picture

Hi there,

For halfpress (autofocus) it stil working fine, but when you try to press it harder it seems not trigger the shutter to take picture.
anyone can help me to fix this?
personally I would like to fix it by myself, since I think maybe just some loosen connection or something, and also because my local canon service center put high cost to fix camera which not purchased locally :(

I am not able to shoot with my canon 350d using the shutter release or the clicking button. All that is happening is that when I switch on, it just keeps shooting and when I try to use the shutter release...

Remove the battery and memory card, press and hold power for 60 seconds to remove residual voltage and reset the processor, if there is no change a camera repair shop is the next stage for assessment.

My Canon Rebel XTi seems to randomly take shots and more often not. Any idea what could be causing this?

If the camera appears to be working properly in some pictures and not others I'm going to suggest you look at your Shooting Modes. It's very possible that the mode dial has been turned to the TV mode which is Shutter Priority. With the Rebel having a shutter speed of 30 seconds to 1/4000 you may click the shutter to take a pictures and the camera appear not to take the picture. A few seconds later the shutter closes and the mirror drops. This also can happen if you are in the Night Portrait mode. The length of time my be longer if the lens cap is immediately placed on the lens.

Change your mode to "P" program until you become more familiar with the camera functions and settings

Why LCD monitor can not show image

Hi,

It might be that it accidently change the display time of the picture or turned it off. There is a setting that you can change to display pictures. Check if that might be the problem.

Cheers

Err 99 in canon 350D

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Canon Rbl XT out of focus in viewfndr when shutter half way down

Hello,
It's possible that the reason the "pictures turn out fairly good" is that your f-stop is set high enough that even though the image isn't properly focused, you have enough depth-of-field to bring your subject into "near focus". Does your lens try to focus back and forth when you half-press the shutter? If not, double check that the lens is in autofocus and not manual focus. You can also try cleaning the contacts between the lens and camera. Take the lens off, and then one-at-a-time clean the contacts on both the lens and the camera, using a clean pencil eraser. Gently rub the contacts. Be sure to hold the item upside down so that the eraser debris falls on to the table, not into the camera body or lens!

If none of this helps the autofocus may have become damaged and you need to have the lens and camera looked at by Canon Repair.

Digital rebel / SLR photos are nearly all black

If the camera still "operates normally" with recorded pictures while they are all black, you try to select CMOS Cleaning to see if the shutter really opens or not. If not, a plastic lever operates the first set of curtains had broken. This could be common for all plastic shutter except EOS 1 series which use metal.

Shutter release lag

I suspect a chip in the circuit is heating up and slowing the processing down. It may be a problem that Canon can solve for you. They might even have a modification for it already. Either way you should take it directly to Canon and have them look at it.
