A85,pictures and screen are completely distorted.when you turn it on,canon pops up cristal clear.also can review previous photos clearly.

This sounds like the known CCD failure problem with Canon A85s. Canon advise that you contact one of their repair centers for a FREE repair.

Camera will not take a picture but previously taken pictures can be viewed


If the camera is showing a black or distorted screen when set to photo, and photos that are taken with the black screen also show up black or distorted, then this would likely be a CCD imager failure, a common occurrence for your model camera.

Lcd screen flickers in photo mode


If your Canon A85 shows distorted image in live view (camera mode) then its known problem of ccd imager chip failure. Check below image.
canon offers free of cost ccd imager chip replacement in A85 model.

PICTURE SCREEN


CCD sensor fault : playback fine but no image in capture mode. Replace the sensor. Canon repairs thse faults free of charge but you need to find out what their policy is with A85. As I said this is a classic : I get + - 5 A85s every week with this particular fault.
