Question about GE Profile JB968 Electric Kitchen Range

Open Question

FO (function error) keeps appearing in GE Model JB968SOK1SS.

This occurred during cooking our turkey for Thanksgiving 2008. We are now trying to use our self cleaning function and it is occuring again. In 6 days, we are having a formal dinner for 18 people and my oven has to work. What can be done to correct this issue!

SOURCE: Oven wont turn on.

I tried several times to get my oven to work and nothing seemed to help. After downloading the manual from this site, my husband locked and unlocked the oven door several times very hard and it knocked something in place and now my oven works. I hope it works for you.

SOURCE: GE OVEN/RANGE INSIDE GLASS ON DOOR SHATTERED.

You will need a window pack, part number WB56T10152 which is not hard to replace. You should be able to order it right from GE, or an appliance repair firm can get it for you, often without extra shipping if they can combine it with other parts they need to order. Should set you back just over $100. You can remove your oven door to make it easier to work on. Use a little screwdriver to pull down the little square hole you will see on the top of the hinge opening on the frame of the oven on each side. That little metal part will lock the hinge open. Next, lift on the door and pull it toward you. The hinge actually stays with the door and lifts right out of the rectangular opening in the oven frame. Reverse procedure to reinstall repaired door.

SOURCE: My Dacor ER36D wont heat after self-cleaning. What should I do?

I would guess you probably have a element out. These stoves are suppose to be self cleaning but I can't tell you how many times I go to repair a stove and it's usually after self cleaning. I'm not in favor of self cleaning becuase it gets SO hot for SO long it really stresses out everything in the stove. If your element is exposed, look for cracks or any iregularity. If you can't see it, it will be under the bottom pan and that usually comes off with 2 screws in the back. Elements can be found about anywhere. Here is one spot.

SOURCE: Grease caked on the oven from a spill

First--Look for a couple release levers around the bottom of the oven. You should remove the bottom and scrape the spilled grease off. If you can't remove it, clean off what you can before using a standard ovencleaner. It will still need to be washed well before firing it up.
Easy Off Oven Cleaner has been around for years.

I have a 30 qt pot, cooking a 18 lb turkey. placed turkey in pot and added water. amount required is above maximum limit level. Can I exceed?

If you are frying it, no you can't. As moisture comes out of the turkey, it will cause the fat to boil over.

You say you 'added water'. You are making boiled turkey for Thanksgiving? You could, but not the same.

I have two suggestions.
Cook traditionally in the oven. I am a chef and have cooked my turkeys breas t side down for a bout 20 years. The result is a much moister breas t on the turkey.

or

Split the turkey and deep fry in two batches.

The word breas t is considered as profanity on Fixya. Please review your answer and try again.

The label on my frozen turkey says it is good till March of 2016 does this mean even if its thawed it will still be good till that date?

Hi Ronnie:
- If it has been sitting unfrozen in your fridge for more than 2 days I'd personally not be eating it.
- Likewise, if you cook it, it should be eaten right away.
- Re-freezing uncooked is not considered safe food protocol.
- Freezing cooked in serving size portions and only thawing when you're going to heat and eat is usually safe.
Hope this helps.

I have a 23 pound turkey how long to cook and what temp do you use

There is no definite time.It is extremely important that the internal temperature of the turkey reach at least 165 degrees in order to kill harmful bacteria that may exist. Thi includes the stuffing. This if difficult to do without drying out the whole bird. Without Stuffing in the bird it is easier. Cook the turkey until the breast meat (thickest part, not near bone or ribs) reaches 161 degrees. or between thigh/leg reaches 180 degrees. New Rival 22qt. Roaster Oven

If you want to use it for food tomorrow, you need to burn it in tonight; 1 hour or longer at 400 degrees, outside but protected, to burn off the factory oils, etc. If you cook in it without doing this, you will ruin the food (and the atmosphere) with bad smells.

This turkey is really bigger than Rival recommends for this roaster, so check the size/fit tonight, also. You need an inch all around for best cooking.

I use 325, not 375 as the Rival manual suggests, 4 hours for an unstuffed 18 pounder.

I have a ge roaster and want to cook a turkey for thanksgiving, but have no instructions. can you help?

Safest to cook unstuffed. The Rival manual here has generally applicable instructions:

Too big of a turkey

I LOVE these roasters!!! And now you've made me hungry for turkey. Yum!!! ;)

You shouldn't have a problem cooking your big bird in that roaster. You may have a little trouble getting it ALL to fit in at first, but of course, the turkey will shrink a bit as it cooks and it'll all fall into place. When you're stuffing Tom (the bird...Not the guy) into the roaster, you may have to coerce the cover to fully close over the top, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I've cooked even larger birds in my Rival 18qt without any issues, other than some that I mentioned above.

I hope this helps and have a very Happy Thanksgiving! :)

you can also put a piece of paper between the ribbon cable where it joins up before the connector. It has been reported that the cable will short in this area. Try that before spending more money since most of the F-codes appear to be cable related.
