To resolve the issue with Belkin routers:The routers that are released recently by Belkin Inc., are Basic / Connect N150, Surf / Surf N300, Share / Share N300, Share Max / Share N Max300, Play / Play N600, Play Max / Play N600 HD
- These routers comes with a software CD.
- Belkin router monitor is the software that gets installed in the computer when you run the setup CD in your computer.
- This software is really an unwanted one that takes around 30 minutes to get installed in your computer.
- In addition to that, this software displays unwanted popup messages.
- 90% users are not aware that they can use the routers without installing any software in their computers.
Inorder to make your router properly, these steps has to be followed...
- The belkin router monitor software has to be uninstalled from your computer.
- Firmware of the router has to be updated to the latest version available from the belkin support site.
- Self healing feature of the router has to be disabled.
- Wifi protected setup (WPS) has to be disabled.
To uninstall the belkin software:
- For Xp computers, Goto control panel > Add or remove programs > select belkin setup and router monitor and remove it.
- For vista & win7, Goto control panel > Uninstall a program > select belkin setup and router monitor and remove it.
To update the firmware for your router:Goto http://www.belkin.com/support/
- Select your router and download the firmware for your router. The file with a .bin extension will be downloaded to your computer.
- Connect the Computer to the Router in one of the 4 ports named wired (usually grey in color) using an Ethernet cable.
- Open internet explorer / Firefox or any of your default web browser.
- In the address bar type the default gateway address of Belkin router http://192.168.2.1
- Belkin router setup utility will be displayed.
- Login to the page. (password: leave it blank and click submit)
You will have the
status screen.
In the status screen, you will have the very first box in the centre of the screen says "
version info", under that you will have
firmware version.
Just note down the firmware version there. If the firmware version in router is lesser than the one downloaded from support site, then the firmware has to be updated.
On the far left side below the
Utilities you will have "
firmware update", you need to click that.
Now on the right hand side you will have "
browse".
Click on browse and locate the downloaded
.bin file from your computer and click
update.
Click
ok for all the warnings.
You may see a count down now.
Once its done you will be brought back to the status screen.
Login to the router again with a blank password and click on
restore factory defaults below the
utilities and click
ok for all the warnings.
Now the firmware of your router must have updated with the latest version.
To disable Selfheal:
On the far left side below the
Utilities you will have
"self heal", you need to click that.
disable the self heal and apply changes.
To disable WPS:On the far left side below the
Wireless you will have
"wifi protected setup", you need to click that.wifi protected setup will be enabled by default, disable it and apply changes.
