At a glance this looks like a problem ith the power board, try first leaving the set unplugged for few hours and see if it restarts.

If the TV led stays on, and TV does not start but you can see that there is power getting to the TV, then the TV is in protection mode because it has detected an internal fault , and you will need to call a technician.

If instead the TV does not start at all and there is no power at all getting to the unit:

If you leave in UK check the fuse inside the AC plug, you do not need to take apart the TV to do this.

If the Cord/Plug is not fused, there is a fuse inside the TV , on the power board, but to replace this you also need to take apart the TV, and therefore is advisable to call a technician.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your description of will not power up, does it refer to completely dead, no lights or any indicators at all? If yes, then it is a power supply issue.

If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), common known issues are:
diode(s) in the bridge and indicated by a blown fuse;
additionally, some of the components are not sufficiently heatsinked;
if you would prefer board replacement rather than component level repair, the ILO's PSU (power supply unit/board) would look like the image below and is available from here.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

    Referring back to the insufficiently heatsinked component, another common/known issues with some versions are heat related causing cold solder on some of the joints. Corrective action would simply be re-soldering and a bit of soldering lead.

Capacitor Is fucked...

The job of the capacitor is to charge up to the amount of voltage the runs on your T.V and it seems its not doing that I would take it back if warranty is still good get repaired or get a replacement.

    Don't try opening it because if it is the capacitor it has alot of voltage about 25k Volts and that is more than enough to kill you.

Talk to Sylvania about your TV. If your TV is fried (if it's off it's still vulnerable) they MIGHT be nice and replace it. I recommend you protect all your electronics with surge protectors, since they'll help you should this happen again.

Your power supply is dead. You can get one from POWER-ON.COM for about $64.00 including shipping and handling. My 32 inch went dead after only one year and I just got a new power supply and it works fine.

Hello williskathy2,

This might be a problem with the circuitry of the screen driver. what happens is the one of the drivers in the display matrix IC goes bad and it can not fire that one string of LCD elements, and this creates the line that you see. Since the line is pink, I would say that the driver is incorrectly firing the string of LCD elements. I would suggest that if you have a background in electronics you check the voltage levels on the display driver IC and the connection to the screen. If you do not have a background in electronics I would suggest that you have a qualified TV technician fix your problem.

I hope this helps,
