I updated my tom tom 910 from version 7.162 to 7.90. Since then it has become unstable. I have previous versions including 7.162 but the tom tom home software will not point to it to copy back to the device. However it will see it when you look at contents on computer. How can I load up the earlier version. I did not backup before the update but I do have previous backups from earlier vesions of Tomtom Home. Finally I've loaded v6.75 and it seems stable but too old for my latest map of UK.

You can get free shared updates from the users when you install the Tom Tom Home Software, but to update the map with the TomTom approved information, you will have to pay, unfortunately. So far, the people-uploaded maps have helped me immensely, though.

You need to be running tom-tom home on your computer.

Also make sure it is the latest version for your device.

Use the add/remove programs to UN-INSTALL any previous version

Then go get the new version but when it asks if you want to run / save / cancel

Select SAVE and save it on your hard drive in a place you know how to get to.

Run it from there.

make sure that TTH is running on your computer before you connect the GPS.

Connect the GPS and then power it up.
It will ask if you want to connect to the computer so touch YES

TTH will then kick in and if the option to auto update was ticked it will do just that.
It may take some time so don't switch off ! !
If it did not auto update there is an option on the TTH screen to do it. Again it may take some time so DO NOT SWITCH OFF !

To update maps you should run Tom Tom home on your computer and then connect the GPS

It will then ask you if you want to connect to the computer and you would tell your GPS yes.

Tom Tom home will once it finds your GPS then proceed to do any minor updates.

If your map is out of date it will offer you the option of purchasing a newer version.

don't be tempted to look for free / pirate maps !
These can cause problems in starting up your GPS (believe me)

Tom Tom map prices are not too bad and compared to many GPS are quite easy to install using Tom Tom home.

There was a bug that seemed to do this.
I went online and got the latest version of home
RE-installed it and was up and running again.

i have a 300 that has not been updated i have my card in my desktop i cannot download new maps or updated tell me what i am doing wrong

the tom tom site allows update for the newest pieces , if u have a piece one year old you cannot update , (legally) , you can search over the internet the version of ure gps , and than download the last version that you gps supports , put it on the card and thats an update :D

The red cross means its been wiped usually. Connect it to your pc and go to my computer. Click on the tom tom logo and see what is on your device. The maps should be there in yellow folders. Copy and paste these in to a folder. Then reformat the device by right clicking on the logo and selecting fat 32. When done reset the device for 30 sec and connect back to your pc and install the latest version of tom tom home. You can then get all the fee updates, thhen go to add maps where you can put your maps back on from the folder you made

The version that would have been included with a purchased unit depends on when it was bought.

Make sure you:
- Have updated to last navcore v7 version
- Have updated TomTom Home to latest version

Then buy and upgrade map through TomTom Home...

One can only presume you have not yet been fully schooled in GPS navigation, and to this i say - there is no better method then to start with the good old user manual.
