No power to battery in notebook Dell inspirion 5160

Body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;}p { margin:0px; padding:0px;}.spwrap{background: transparent url(../wysiwyg_rte/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom;} I replaced the PS first, still no power to charge battery. PC was booting fine but battery not charging. Seemed to charge intermittently when PS socket was ''wiggled'' so replaced socket with new one and no power now to charge battery. I think that there is a trace in the MB that did not get connected when I replaced the socket, as I enlarged the holes in the MB slightly to get the new socket in. Does anybody have a solution that would allow me to jumper from these pins to another location on the MB to fix this? I could attach a picture of the MB in the area of the socket if that would help.

When this happens it is usally because there is a bad soldering joint on the AC socket connectors on laptop motherboard.

Test the AC adapter and battery first.

It could be faulty battery or the battery charging adaptor must be faulty.

Restore dell d620 to factory settings without CD

How to restore your computer to factorysettings without a disk?
If original andfairly new: While Booting Up.

Dell XP = Ctrl+F11
Dell Vista = F8
EEEPC = Esc
Compaq = F11
HP Desktop Vista = F11
Emachine = F10
Acer = Alt+F10

Every manufacture has or uses different Function Key combinations to do a Factory Default Recovery. Also if it didn't come withdisks there is normally a program in the menus to create your own set of recovery CDs. This must be done before you ever putanything on the recovery partition d:, if you used d: for anything you need toremove what you put there or the recovery will not function.(As soon as yourcomputer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the systemrecovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recoveryand click next. WARNING: before doing this backup anything on your computer youwant to keep pictures, videos, music etc. This will delete everything that didnot come pre-loaded from the factory, so if you have pictures of Aunt Fae'sClass reunion you should probably back those up if you want to keep them.)

Lately my laptop just shuts down randomly... Then i have to leave it off for a while before it will re-boot....

I suggest you clean the laptop's air INTAKE duct, with air from a can of compressed air for computers.

1) ALL power removed from the laptop. AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Laptop closed and turned over, Front facing you.

The Air Intake Duct is up on the right, IN the removable panel.
It has 14 vent slots. 2 columns of 7 slots.

This is where the Cooling Fan draws air up, and in.
The air is then exhausted to the outside vent of the case.

Use Short Bursts of air. Squeeze the trigger in all the way, then let go fast.

{Note*
You don't want to spin the fan faster than it was designed for.
Spinning the fan faster than it was designed for, can lead to premature failure of the Fan's bearings }

I suspect though, that the 'Gunk' inside is going to need to be physically removed.

Don't forget to use an ESD wrist strap, and connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.

Here is a free Service Manual in PDF file form. Allow a few seconds for the first page to come up, and additional time for the file to fully download.

Forgot windows password

Hi, why don't you remove the password with Windows Password Recovery 6.0? If you can’t remember the windows admin password, try to reset it with a reset disk. Free download windows password Recovery from http://www.recoverlostpassword.com/products/windowspasswordrecoery.html and there is a .iso file included. Burn the .ISO file onto a blank CD which is called windows password Recovery disk. With this disk, you can reset the unknown password without erasing anything5e4ff7b.gif

My AC power adapter for my Dell Inspiron 5160 won't stop beeping and now won't charge the battery.

The box on the charger is bad. Order a new charging cable from dell or another trusted reseller, making sure it is for the same model family.

Good Luck,

    need more info....does it replicate without the battery? If it does, then it may be that the processor is overheating and shutting down the computer. Try to run with just the power adaptor and see if it happens. If it doesn't, then its probably the battery....
