Question about Ulead Videostudio 8 for PC

1 Answer

Creating DVDs from VHS recordings.

I am struggling to create DVDs from my old VHS recordings. My main problem is that when I play on my DVD player the DVD disk which I have created, the picture appears "shaking", flickering. I do not know the settings which I should use in order to prevent this. During the process of creating a video file (Share - Create Video File - Custom - Options - ULeadVideoStudio) I did check (select) the box which says "Apply Anti-Flickering Filter", but this didn't always help. Let me describe the whole process which I take in order to create a DVD out of my old VHS recordings: 1. I capture (record) the video VHS recording on my PC; 2. I trim the clip; 3. I save the trimmed clip; 4. I create a video file. To do all this up until now I have used my ULead VideoStudio 8 SE DVD software. 5. Now I convert the video file which I have created to VIDEO_TS format. I have to do this as this is the only format which my DVD player can read. To do this I am using ConvertXtoDVD (VSO) software which I have. Then I burn the converted video files (the ones which have been converted to VIDEO_TS format) onto a blank DVD disk. To burn the DVD I use Nero version 10. I would like to say that I do have the manual of ULead 8, but there isn't much which I can learn from it. In most of the cases it says "if you want to do this (change the settings, create new settings for example), this is what you have to do". But it does not tell you which are the settings which you need to change and what your settings should be, if you want to create something (a DVD, for example) or for any other purpose. What I mean is, that in my opinion the manual should have been organized in the following way: 1. IN ORDER TO CREATE A DVD, the procedure should be (you should do) A,B,C,D, and your settings should be E,F,G,H. 2. IN ORDER TO CREAT A DISK TO BE PLAYED ON YOUR PC - (then specify the applicable procedure and settings). 3. IN ORDER TO CAPTURE OR EDIT AN IMAGE - and so on. 4. IN ORDER TO CREATE AN AUDIO FILE ----- and so on. As I sayd earlier, all it tells is "If you want to change the settings, this is what you should do". But why I should want to change the settings, which are the settings which need to be changed and what the change(s) should be - this the manual doesn't tell you. Please help, especially with the flickering problem. Thanks, Ephraim Katz, Johannesburg, South Africa. ephraim@oncue.org.za

While capturing VHS to PC firstly you have to have a hardware that captures the VHS to PC, I mean you need a MPEG 2 hardware of Pinacle {PCI card}, then you can solve your problem. OR if you have already captured (reccord) a video file it should be on MPG format.. if it is in MPG format then it will not flicker, OR you can try Intervideo WINDVD creator software to create a DVD format file...

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

I have recorded all my vhs tapes to dvds and they have played before and now they wont play. i have checked 4 dvds and they wont read in my tv, or 2 of my computers. what could of happened?

It can be several things. What type of DVD's do you have and how old are your players. Most older DVD players won't play the DVD+R format. When you said they played before was that in the recorder you used to make them? If so then most likely you failed to fina'ize them in the DVD recorder you used to make them. If you don't do that, they will ONLY play in the DVD recorder you used to copy them. If you did finalize them, it may be that, as said before, cheap discs dont work in any machines and DVD+R wont work in older players.
