Question about RCA P61929 TV

No Picture It was working fine. I went to the restroom, and when I came back, there was no picture. I hate to throw it away, if there's a simple fix.

I unplugged the unit(for days), and still has no picture or sound

  • dfw24 Nov 29, 2008

The only fuse I could find, is good, so it sounds like an expensive problem. I guess I'll have it hauled off. Thank you for your time.

I was watching a movie through a DVD player. I paused the movie, went to the restroom, and when I returned, I thought someone had turned the TV off. There is no picture or sound. When I turn it on, I hear a dull click, and 2 or 3 seconds of static electricity that fades out, and then no sound at all. The only fuse I can find is at the power supply, and tests good. Thanks for your time.

Something inside the set has failed and is causing the set to fall back into "protect" mode. The click you hear is the power relay. The high voltage section is turning on for a few seconds then shutting down. Without seeing the set and taking measurements inside, there is little anyone can do remotely. It is possible that an Eprom reprogramming can fix this, but that would involve the use of another Eprom on a temporary basis and can only be done at a service shop.

If there are other symptoms that you have not listed, they may give us more clues to determine the exact problem, but as it stands you should bring the set to a servicer for an estimate. Armed with the estimate we may be able to guide you through the actual repair.

Keep us posted,
Dan

How old is your TV? Is there any Voltage fluctuation occurs or electric breakdown?

Take it to nearby repair shop or if you have enough tool to perform a test yourself then go to check its Power Control board inside the cabinet with a Multimeter for all link and circuits. May be an IC or resistor broken down.

If the TV led is on, and TV does not start but you can see that there is power getting to the TV, then you need to call a technician.

If instead the TV does not start at all and there is no power at all getting to the unit:

If you leave in UK check the fuse inside the AC plug, you do not need to take apart the TV to do this.

If the Cord/Plug is not fused, there is a fuse inside the TV , on the power board, but to replace this you also need to take apart the TV, and therefore is advisable to call a technician.

A suggestion:

If this is a CRT TV, the traditional TVs with CRT tube inside, get it replaced with an LCD or Plasma TV.
This are more expensive, but waste far less energy, and can pay themselves on your bills over few years.

Do not buy a new CRT, nowadays has become an obsolete technology.

If you turned the TV off and then turned it back on and the picture is still not there try making sure all cables in the back are plugged in securely. Check the cable box to ensure the cable box did not fail. With the limited info you give I am limited with the solution. Do you still have audio with no picture? Does the power come on? Please post back

    Hello,

I have to agree with abvrcsm it's the main board, the click and the static electricity are 2 guaranteed signs it's the main board. If it is a CRT it will most likely cost you as much as a new 26in LCD. I recommend 1. take it to a tech and get an esimate, if it's out of your budget they will galdly keep it so you won't have to pick it up.. as they get there parts at wholesale so for them to fix it and resell it is not a problem, however, no guarantee they will do that, however they do know the proper disposal precedure. Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, any other indications like flashing LEDs at the front control panel? If yes, any sequence and how many blinks? Any clicking/chirping sound from the back? And are you considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair?

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Its the problem in the main board of your tv .may be caused due to extra current passed from the unit at that particular time and because of that the fuse of the tv is blown off.this could be the common cause for this problems.but it could also be the faulty capacitor on the main board and that capaCITOR needs to be replaced to clear this problem.

Our Sony picture came on one day & after a few minutes the screen went black, the sound was still there & the stand by light was blinking away. After waiting awhile we can still turn the t.v on, ...

often it is cold solder in c-board. have you tried to re-solder it..in few years of using your t.v it is normally electronics parts heats-up..then it will loose it contact from the base board or the PCB.
if you have a basic electronics knowledge and good soldering skills you can do fix it right away.
if not its better call a qualified t.v repair man.

Screen goes blank while watching

Couple of things:

1) When the picture "stops", does the standby light blink at all?
2) Can you post the model number please?

Some of these sets are known to have problems with the picture tube as it starts to age. There are some workarounds for this that can extend the life of the set for a short time. Without the model number though, I can't confirm that this set is in that catagory. Please supply responses to the issues above and we'll continue from there.

Thanks,
Dan

No picture

This TV is not known for it's reliability. I have the same model and it's in a storage room broken. It could still be something simple on your's. Try unplugging it and leaving it like that for a day. Try again a day later and see if a hard reset helps.

Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider

Sound fine, but absolutely no picture?

it seems that your tv has a problem in horizontal circuit (with sound but no pictures). since you moved your tv from one place to another, the tv might have shaken causing to loose some soldered components particularly in horizontal circuit. if u have exprience in this stuffs, try to resolder the circuit, if not, bring it to a service technician.
