Generally, there are screws that hold the beater bar onto the vac head.  Loosen them, remove the glop that got in there and you should be okay.  If you remove the screws, note the location of all parts...Digital cameras are great things. If you forced the adjustment, you may have broken or bent something.

How to change height adjustment on kenmore canister power-mate?

My powermate has a little pedal on the bag of the beaterbar housing that you press all the way down with your foot and then release. Each time you press down it changes the height from 'xlo' to 'lo' to 'med' to 'high' and then it starts over again.

Can I fix the high, medium, low level switch on vacuum piece?

The height adjustment lever on Kenmore Power Nozzles is one of the machine's weak points. It's not well made as far as being protected from dirt and dust and moisture. It's always easier to move these things when the vac is on it's side or at least with the front end in the air. That takes the pressure off the adjuster. The mechanism may need nothing more than to taken apart in the presence of a good air compressor which can be used to blow out any of the aforementioned debris.

Height Adjustment on Hoover Wind Tunnel doesn't seem to do the job.

You changed the belt that drives the brushroll, it is a flat stretch belt. The V belt also should be replaced every year or two max. It will not be stretched out like the flat belt but with normal use the side of the v will of wear off and the belt will be a little thinner which can cause it to slip on the pulley. The V belt drives the transmission. The flat belt goes from the transmission to drive the brushroll. The burning smell could come from the V belt if it's slipping real bad.

Hey everyone, first time on forums. I have a Eureka True Clean vacuum that I found in the garbage. I have disassembled everything, cleaned and restored it. Looks perfect now. Suction from hose is powerful,...

Change the belt on the unit, and adjust the height adjustment until the brushes are just touching the carpet. I know you mentioned the belt looks good, but when you get the new EXT-U belt, you will notice a size difference. Good luck!

How do I access the servo motor?

I have the same/similar problem. I disassembled the vacuum and discovered that it was not actually the servo motor itself. The problem on mine was little a little sensor.

The motor that raises and lower the height adjustment obviously need to stop when it reaches the highest setting (or the lowest setting) so that it doesn't over-adjust itself outside of the normal range (example an elevator in a building must stop trying to go down when it reaches the lowest floor, and must stop trying to go up when it reaches the highest floor.) In the vacuum there is a little slider and a pair of sensors that 'tells' the vacuum when it hits the bottom or top height. The sensor in mine had gotten mashed up and was not working anymore. Unfortunately the position it was in when it got mashed was all the way up, and worse, because it had been triggered to tell the vacuum that it had reached its highest point, it disable the adjustment motor from making further adjustments.

So I bought a new sensor part ($15) (US) but since Electrolux didn't actually stock them, it took almost three months to arrive. Unfortunately for me, I have since forgotten where all the little pieces and parts came from. I am trying to find a repair manual to help me reassemble it properly, and I'll remain cautiously optimistic about this.

Hope this helps you with some insight in your problems possible diagnosis and resolution.

How do I change the belt of a 3rd Gen. Kirby???
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Can’t get the belt to pick up on the hook when trying to get the head attachment working
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt hook sometimes can be extremely hard to rotate on the Kirby vacuum but to remove the belt you turn it counter clockwise and to install the belt you turn it clockwise.
