Did your player come with a CD with drivers? if yes, pop it in and install them, reboot computer

if that doesn't work, go to your manufacturer website ( apple, creative, sandisk, etc)

find the support webpage and find your product drivers, download the drivers for your OS, install them, reboot computer.

How do i download my sylvania smp 2012?

The Sylvania SMP2012 can be used as a regular USB mass storage device. This means that you don't actually need the included software to use it. However, if you are using Windows, you may be able to control it more effectively with the included software, as it may perform functions such as sorting and configuration that are not available with the generic USB mass storage drivers.

I'm not certain about Mac OSX drivers for this device.

Linux users are stuck with USB mass storage, but thankfully it does work. Sorting can be achieved with the "fatsort" utility, which is available with Ubuntu and other Debian distros.

What is a USB 2.0 MSD mode?

Mass Storage Device (or MSD) is also referred to as Mass Storage Class (MSC) or Universal Mass Storage (UMS). It's the mode that makes the Sansa work like a hard drive (flash drive, thumb drive). There are two modes, MSC and MTP, the more automated mode that communicates with Windows Media Player.

Windows ME and Insignia

Insignia mp3 players can use the generic mass storage driver in almost any computer. Windows ME includes a generic mass storage driver. When you plug in the USB cord, two extra drive letters will show up in Windows Explorer. Songs go into the Music folder. For neatness: Make new folder for each artist and under each artist, make a new folder for each album.
Also slight chance the USB mode got off of Automatic in the player's options. Please do advise if it won't work, I will show you where to get the generic mass storage driver for windows ME and 98 if for some reason it isn't installed on your machine.
