I tried the turn upside down and tap with hand as stated in the forum, but it did not work. I have looked for a repair manaul so I can either purchase or download, I'm very good on the tools, but no luck I guess I just want the camera fixed. Can you help me?

I followed the directions that were posted on the free suggestions on your site: Turn the camera on in viewfinder mode. Turn it off and turn it upside down in your hand. Smack the bottom of the camera several times with your other hand. Turn it back over and turn it back on. It took me three tries, but voila, on the third try, it worked! I could see through the viewfinder again.
please use my real email account to deal with buying my battery door. $10 or for $25 I'll install it for you. keithtracypierceATcomcast.net
I am no expert at all, and the only camera I took apart was a Z3, which I did only to remove the battery door. dunno if Z3's similar to Z1; it IS similar to Z6 though.
Just a guess: electrical contacts at the viewfinder switch?
I found this "solution" on another site and it actually worked! Turn the camera upside down. Now, with the device off, tap it a few times in your hand. Now, turn the device on in the viewfinder mode. Tap it again if the viewfinder isn't active.
my dimage z5 and see alot of problems on ebay the net ....anyways being a tech for 25 years the cover came right off and u can see the switch is surface mounted. there is supposed to be a plastic lever coming out to manually engage to outer switch but missing ...upon closer inspection i could see alot busted up chards of small plastic ...the insideof the switch was completely ruined for bits where falling out...its just stuck in main veiwfinder.
cant find the part itself anywhere on net. heard sony bought out minolta.
my only bet is buy a broken camera with different prob. on ebay.
it is a 3.3 megapix camera and was expensive for its day so I would contact the repair department at Minolta but dont tell them it was dropped as they wont touch if you do and they may have a flat rate for the repair . I just bought a fuji 5.6 megapix for 200 bucks. Good Luck
