My laptop OFTEN shuts down completely after I activate it from its "Standby" mode. Then, usually, when I turn it back on it won't fully boot up - it freezes and won't load Windows XP Home software UNTIL I physically manipulate the laptop by giving a slight tug upwards on a corner of the keyoard base or by flipping it completely over and tapping it lightly on the bottom. I then look for the screen to light up and it proceeds to load as normal.
I'm no computer geek, clearly, but it SEEMS like I must have a loose-fitting component somewhere when it reacts like that but I could be totally off-base. I hate to ship it off to have it worked on for this small a problem but it is worrisome and annoying to have to deal with this so frequently. I would also wonder whether this problem might become more serious over time. I don't expect it to "fix" itself and suddenly, one day, have the problem disappear. Yet, I don't like the idea of having somebody "tinker" with it because I really like it apart from this issue.
Coincidentally, this problem appeared 1 week after my service plan expired! I would not be afraid to attempt to repair this issue myself IF somebody could line out the procedure.
Thanks!
This is a common problem with e1505. Basically, the machine will shut down, unexpectedly in a number of ways. Some suspect bad cord or power connection, others believe bad mother board or RAM, but nobody seems to know for sure as they have never been able to fix it. Personally, i believe it to be overheating and the video card and/or power connection as is seen in many other Dell laptops (5100 and others), which tend to goto to black screens. Also, a possible culprit is the week hinges that crack over time and house many wire strips. This behavior has become daily as we have no battery pack left to support the failing power connection.
Hiiiiiiii ther
how r u ??
the 1st idea come to the mind it's a cable lose
but i don't think so
it might be alot of things
mother boared hardwear error {also unlikely} or a HDD serfec error or just softwear error {OS}
so 1st u start with teh softwear
try to re instal teh OS and just instal the basic programs and drivers and check it for a day or two
if nothing happend than it was a softwear problem
so instal teh rest of ur applecation and have fun :D
but if the reinstaling of teh OS dosen't fix it
than it's {MY GUESS} HDD serfec problem
keep me posted after u do the OS
and if u need any further assistance email me
[email protected]
u take care and have fun

I have the same problem. When I choose "Stand By" sometimes the laptop shuts down completely. I've re-installed the software and it's still happening. I even got a new harddrive and more memory. It is a Dell Latitude D600.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Same problem dell will shut down from "Standby". Lightly tapping it in the bottom will make it boot up. I have re-installed the OS, swapped the memory and harddrive and installed Linux.
