Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Ice maker not making ice after replacing water line.

Water line had rusted out at water hookup source in the wall. Replaced the water line. It was making ice prior. Not making ice now & it was making a loud noise off & on. Turned off water. Turned water back on & it's not making that noise, but it's also not making any ice. It appears that inside the freezer, it may be leaking or frozen up - see ice droplets on the back wall near the source.

I had a friend buy & hook up the water line - but I notice that there's a ''connector'' sitting on the table. ???

Ice makers are a common problem. On many brands there is a reset button behind the plastic cover. However if you physically see Ice clogging your water inlet to the ice maker, this will without a doubt prevent the ice maker from making ice. Use hot water or a steamer to unclog the ice or you can leave the unit unplugged for a few hours to defrost the freezer. You should be able to hear when the ice maker cycles and lets in water. Note: if you're getting plenty of water out of your in door water dispenser, then it's NOT a water supply problem. You may need to check the solenoid that controls water entering the ice maker.

Built-in side by side. The in-freezer ice maker is not working properly. makes one row of ice every 10-2 hours. i have checked temp, water filter and water line...all is fine. had the ice maker replaced...

Check Temp inside freezer. It has to be down to about 10 or 15 degrees
See if water is in icemaker.
Pour water in Ice Maker and wait to see if it ejects.
If it ejects theb you need to replace water valve in rear bottom of fridge(Its the part that
attaches to water line out of wall)
If it doesn't eject then it is a faulty Ice Maker.
If its leaking same part needs replaced. The water valve at the bottom rear of fridge.

Hss25gfta refridgerator ice maker seems to be stuck on off .It all of the sudden quit making ice and we can't find the solution. It makes water fine

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

The ice maker suddenly no longer making ice can be caused by many things.

1. The freezer section is above 16 F.
a. Usually the cause is ice buildup on the evaporator coils as a result of an automatic defrosting problem.
b. The evaporator fan is not turning at full speed

2. The ice makers thermostat has failed. When the tray reaches 16F temp is closes the circuit and starts the ice maker harvest cycle.

3. The ice maker drive motor has failed.

4. The ice maker heating element has failed.

5. The inlet water valve is allowing water to drip into the ice tray during the freeze period of ice making.
a. You would note that the water fill area of the icemaker would have ice build up. Also in the very back of the ice make tray ice would build up and prevent the sweep fingers from rotating.
b. Usually when the above happens the rubber water inlet tub that goes from the back of the unit to the ice maker is frozen solid internally.
c. You can test this by removing the plastic hose from the rear top area of the unit and placing the upper end of the tub in a bucket for several hours. (ICE MAKER OFF) If you note water in the bucket the water valve is leaking water past the diaphram when the solenoid is supposed to be closed and must be replaced
6. The inlet water valve solenoid coil has failed.

Most appliance parts sources do not sell piece parts for this ice maker. They only sell the complete assembly. Here is one source of many on line sources for just the icemaker.

Should the water valve be leaking water by it is item 800 of this link that is also one source of many online sources: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5203104&diagram_id=24933031#d24933031

Ice maker has stopped making ice

Check the ice maker to see if there are ice cubes in the ice maker. If so, there is a problem with the ice maker heater and / or motor. You may be able to rebuild the ice maker by replacing defective parts, but it might be easier to replace it as a whole unit instead. If there is no ice present, it is likely a problem with the ice maker water lines / solenoid.

There are usually two solenoid valves and tubing systems for these types of fridges. One actuates on demand for water whenever requested, and the other operates automatically to make ice cubes until the ice cube reservoir is full.

Carefully push/pull the fridge away from the wall.

Unplug the fridge from the outlet.

Shut off the water supply to the fridge.

Remove access cover (usually the on the bottom) from the back of the fridge. Follow the tube that comes from the top of the fridge (for the ice maker) down to the bottom of the fridge.

Inspect visually for sources of the leak on tubing and related parts. Carefully check by hand for leaks in areas not readily visible - including the back sides of all the tubing, too. There may be sharp edges that can cut if not paying attention. If a leak is found where the tubing connects to other parts, you may be able to simply remove the tube and cut it back an inch or so if there is enough slack.

It may require that some special fittings and parts be obtained to reconnect and some compression type parts are designed for single use. If this is the case, gather the parts and bring them to a local hardware store for assistance obtaining replacements.

If a solenoid valve is found to be the culprit, due to a crack, etc. a trip to an appliance parts store will be required - unless able to purchase online. Part prices can vary widely , depending on the source.

Once replacement parts have been secured, reconnect after disconnecting power & water supply lines. When satisfied with the installation, reconnect power and water lines and test.

Carefully slide the fridge back into position - taking care to not crush the power or water lines.

My ice maker is not working...i replaced the maker but still no ice after 48 hrs...but i did notice ice stuck in the valve that goes into the maker..i pulled the chuck out..is that normal?

The ice frozen in the fill tube , is a sign of a bad ( seeping ) water inlet valve . Sounds like you needed to replace the water valve , instead of the icemaker , if the problem was " not making ice " . The water valve , is the piece the wall water line connects to on the back of the refrig .

The ice maker is not producing any ice. Can it be reset?

First off, is the water going into the ice maker? If not, it could be a plugged water inlet or line, or it could be that the water solinoid (water valve) has failed and needs to be replaced.

Normally, check 1st for water getting into the ice maker and if not, check the water lines and shut-off valve to make sure you are getting water to the fridge. Sometimes hard water deposits will block ice maker lines over time.

If that isn't the situation, check for a faultyfailed solinoid by 1st shutting off the water supply and removing the water line that goes from the wall to the fridge, if you're gettting water there, go to the back of the fridge and see if you can get water past the valve, etc. If not, it is most likely the water valve that has failed and needs replacement.

ICE MAKER FREEEZES

my suggestion is unplug frige. for a couple of days! yes you will have to vacate everything. let all ice melt.. have mops and buckets ready for a poss. flood due to so much ice buildup. see if you can disconnect any hoses after thaw and blow in them. make sure fridge is disconnected!. look for any cracked plastic since these can become brittle in time and use 100 percent silicone to seal.
hope for the best!

Maytag ice2o won't make ice

theharrisont,  You state that...." ice maker stopped working after it flooded our kitchen floor."  The water works because the water fountain dispenser uses a separate part of the Water Valve. The ice maker portion of the water valve is defected and the entire Water Valve Assembly will have to be replaced.  Your problem is the dual Water Valve Assembly which is located on the rear bottom area of the refrigerator (follow the water inlet line from the wall to the refrigerator...the water inlet line connects to the Water Valve Assembly).  The significant info which you provided was that the ice maker flooded the kitchen which indicates the Water Valve Assembly is defected. Failure to replace the Water Valve Assembly will result in the same problem of flooding at some later date.  Replacing the dual Water Valve Assembly is just one step of several steps necessary to correct the problem.  You will also have to temporarily remove the ice maker from the freezer (usually a couple of screws hold it to the wall and a quick disconnect electrical plug) and put it in the sink and run warm water over to remove any ice.  Before you reinstall the ice maker you must check the Water Fill Tube that dumps the water into the ice maker.  Because you said that the ice maker flooded the kitchen, then the Water Fill Tube is probably filled solid with ice which must be removed.  A hair dryer is a quick way to achieve this.  Blow hot air directly into the end of the Water Fill Tube which dumps the water into the ice maker.  Note:  Use a long screw driver to insert into the Water Fill Tube to break loose any ice and continue to use the hair dryer to help to remove any ice. This should correct your problem

The ice maker is not producing ice or not enough ice

Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on?
Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice
production.
Large amount of ice recently removed? Allow 24 hours for
ice maker to produce more ice.
Ice cube jammed in the ice maker ejector arm?
Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.
Reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply?
This can decrease water pressure

OR
The water dispenser will not operate properly

Freezer door closed completely? Close the door firmly. If it
does not close completely, see “The doors will not close
completely.”
Refrigerator connected to a water supply and the supply
shutoff valve turned on?
Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
Is the water pressure at least 30 psi? The water pressure to
the home determines the flow from the dispenser. See “Water
Supply Requirements.”
Kink in the home water source line? Straighten the water
source line.
New installation? Flush and fill the water system.
Water filter installed on the refrigerator? The filter may be
clogged or incorrectly installed.
Is a reverse osmosis water filtration system connected to
your cold water supply?

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! LET ME KNOW IF THIS SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM
