I purchased this television in 2008. About a year ago, vertical lines appeared. At first it was a 4 or 5 inch vertical bar on the left side. However, the problem has morphed several times, but now it's mostly 1 inch vertical bars across the entire screen and change color and fade in and out. What makes me believe it's not the LCD screen is that the problem changes with different outputs---it's mostly fine with non-HD channels, often fine with non-HD DVDs. However, when I'm streaming Netflix on PS3, especially HD content, the bars appears. Is it the lcd screen or some component? Thanks.

Hi,
It could be 1 of 4 things:
1. One of the ribbon cables has worked itself loose (Simple Fix)
2. One of the assembly boards maybe faulty
3. The driver board which feeds the panel maybe faulty
4. The panel is faulty
The driver board in the UK costs approx £70 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.
All other parts are between £80-160 and approx £35-70 to fit it if this is the fault.
The panel will cost approx 50-75% of what the TV was worth when you bought it - "Repair versus Replacement"
Thanks

I have the same tv with the same problem. My tv is about 3 1/2 years old. I took it to the shop yesterday and today they told me that I had a bad lcd panel and a bad FL1 circuit board. They also told me it was going to be $3800.00 dollars to fix. I am now on my way to buy another tv, needless to say it will not be a Sony. Sony knows about this problem and refuse to do anything about it. Good luck.

In most cases is the screen is covered with vertical lines all the way accross the screen then the T-Con module is at fault. The t-con board is replaceable without having to replace the entire LCD panel which would usually make it cheaper than replacing the TV. The part number I come up with is 1-857-213-11. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

What you're describing is usually the result of an improperly seated connector. With the power disconnected, open the tv and locate any connectors between the LCD screen and the driver circuit board. Unplug them, and reconnect it assuring it's properly and firmly seated. Be careful when handling these cables as they tend to be quite fragile... take your time.

Hi. I am sorry to tell you that your LCD screen has finished its usefull lifetime. This is a typical pixel-line problem. This problem usually can not be fixed, It is necessary to replace the LCD panel. Though sometimes some lines disappear when you do some pressure round the egde where starts the line. To replace the LCD panel is usually as expensive as 80% of the Total price of the Device.
