Question about RCA P52921 52" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Big mistake I am posting a new one just for this. Essentially it is the same RCA P52921 rear projection TV chassis CTC195M. When replcing the FLYBACK I could not get the thick HV red wire unplugged from either end of the FLYBACK or the CRT so I cut it. After replacement I joined it back with metal connectors. Since there HV wires are well insulated and shielded is it possible that this hissing noise was HV leakage due to cutting the wire and reconnecting it with the metal connections? And if yes how is this related to the TV not powering on now? Did the FLYBACK go bad or one od the HOTs? Please advice and thank you in advance!!!

Re: Big mistake

What was the origonal symptom before replacing the flyback? You could try using epoxy on the wire get a nice size glob of it on there where the wire got cut.

RCA p52921

You will need to connect your antenna and do an auto search. When the search is over you might have to choose the broadcast option over the cable selection. That might bring in the picture.

No sound no picture

That is usually caused by the horizontal output cisrcuit or the flyback. Can you post the chassis number as RCA has to be diagnosed by chassis number.

Tv will not turn on with remote or when I press the power button on the tv.

The P52960 uses the PTK195 series chassis. The most common cause of that set not starting up is a shorted flyback transformer. It is quite easy to test and replace the flyback transformer in that chassis, but that should be done by a qualified tech experienced in RCA projection sets.

Unsolder collector and if the unit stays replace p/n#239111 FBT - and those resistors. Also check the solder on L14401, it's the coil off the base of the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor). You might want to re-solder it anyway just for good measure.

If you can find the horizontal output transistor which is located near the flyback transformer, one lead of this drive transformer is connected to the base lead. (horizontal output transistor). There may be a little coil in series with this lead going to the transistor.

56" RCA projection TV (FLYBACK related problem)

the base to emitter of the hot will read short on a diode checker/test on ohms it vairies but typically about 50 ohms.e to c, or b to c should have very high resistance. unsolder the collector of the hot. make sure all solder is gone. now test the ohm between your tuner ground & the pad of the hot collector it should read open.
