Is it possible the cord to the computer and camera is no longer working?

It's certainly possible that the cable has gone bad. It's also possible that the socket on the camera has failed.

You can take the memory card out of the camera and read that directly. Card readers are quite inexpensive, and that may be even faster than plugging the camera in.

When I switch on my camera (sony rx100) the screen says usb mode connecting even though there is no usb cable attached. The message stays on the screen and the camera cannot be be used to take a pictu

if you can get to the menu on the camera see if there is an operations menu that says to disconnect the usb or to close the usb. It might just be on and not closed.

My computer does not detect my power shot A400

If you camera is not detected when connected to your computers USB port what you can try here first is to connect the camera on a different USB port and make sure the connections and usb cable is fine, and if your computer is a desktop you can try connecting the the camera on the back USB port of your computer and see if that will be fine.

But if still not working I will suggest you try connecting the camera on different computer and also if possible use a different USB cable and reinstall the camera software if you have the setup disc for it.

Hi, I can not tranfer images from camera to computer using a usb cord. I tried 2 different cords and 4 different computers. I do not have a card reader, so please don't ask me to go purchase a card...

Emily,

We need to rule some things out. Do the USB cables you're trying to use work on other "known to be good" devices? Do not reuse any cable(s) that doesn't work, even if new. Once you have a cable that has been proven to work, try connecting the camera to the USB port on the computer again. Make sure the camera power is OFF while connecting to the computer. Only after connecting should you turn camera power ON again. You can review the whole process starting on page 147 of the manual.

If it doesn't work, it is possible that the ports you're trying to use is either 1) defective or 2) overloaded. Try connecting to a different USB port on one of the computers. If you don't have another USB port, or if it still doesn't work as expected, remove all the devices connected to the USB ports that are not needed to operate the computer. This will lower the amount of power the computer needs to supply to USB devices (some - but not all - computers will flash a message on the screen if there's too many devices connected). Reconnect the powered off camera and try again after turning back on..

If you're still having a problem, suspicion turns to the camera's USB port. Resolving a problem within the camera will likely be the most expensive fix. It took considerable restraint, but I didn't even mention the other solution ;-)

I hope this helps & good luck! Please rate my reply - thanks.

Won't download to computer. "Cannot read Device"

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PURCHASE A CABLE TO CONNECT OUR SAMSUNG SL502 CAMERA TO OUR TV TO SHOW THE PICTURES ON THE TV SCREEN ?

After researching your camera model i do not see a output connection. Usually there is a output connection that will allow images to be displayed on another device such as devices containing rca or usb type connections for inputs.

Hello, We've just bought a FInePix XP10 and can't get the camera to connect to our computer or TV using the supplied USB cable. Camera screen reads 'USB' which suggests something's happening but nothing...

The camera's memory will appear as a disk drive in "My Computer" (Windows). You will find your images as files in a directory on that drive. I don't know about connecting to a TV- presumably it has a USB socket, so I imagine that it will access the camera as a disk drive as well. You will need to read your TV manual to discover how that works. Possibly you press the play button to get a menu onscreen, or the USB button if there is one.

I am trying to find the schematics for the main board for my Panasonic Lumix tz-5 camera. When I try to turn it on it says that it is "Connecting to USB" even though it is not connected. I have taken it...

Go into the camera menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions.(although since you've taken the camera apart a couple of times, I'm not sure anything will work as a fix). Also, remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on. If it now works, don't ever connect the camera to your computer again. Use a separate card reader to download your pics from now on.

If the camera is not detected by the computer what you can try here is to try connecting the camera on a different USB port and check if it will be detected , but if still not detected if possible for you to try a different USB cable that will be better or if possible also try to connect the camera on a different computer so we can isolate the problem if its just the USB cable , the USB port or the camera itself that is bad...

My Olympus FE-170 won't connect to my PC

Hi there
Possibly not, try another camera lead in a different USB port.
If its the same format the camera card and try again, if you still get the same result, the camera is faulty.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!
