I purchased an HP COMPACQ laptop when I was on holidays in the states in 2005 . no problem so far as I have been servicing it regularly and upgrading it I had moved house x3 since and I cannot find my...

Depends on where you bought it. Best Buy stores are near the only ones I can think of that have a smart enough system to keep track of purchases that well. You would need to send a request to the store of purchase with the amount and as close to exact time and date.

Over Time ... The Pressure From You Resting Your Palms On The Laptop Base Pushes Down On These Fragile Crappy Ribbon Cables and They Crack.....
You Will Need To Replace Or Attempt To Reseat The Cable In Its Slot If By Chance It Pulled Out Of It.. In Most Cases The Ribbon Cable Cracks and loses the connection....

HP pavilion dv6000 laptop

Were you offered any chance to back up settings and files?
Upgrading Win is normally pretty safe with more than one opportunity to save the previous version & setup and/or a restore opportunity.
I doubt your files have been overwritten; they are probably still present unless you were offered and opted for, a reformat of your HD.
There is probably a D: partition on your drive; it may be hidden, but gain access to it to see if you have a recent folder that refers to the previous installation.

Hp dv2815nr package W/ bluetooth mouse & case

The best way to overcome the situation would be to get an internal bluetooth card installed into the laptop if possible.
