Lost login info, what should we do?

You are talking about accessing a Hard Drive via IP Network Address. Very difficult to troubleshoot via this method as the Network protocol interfears. Try plugging the drive in via USB or FireWire etc.
On A hardwired port it is easier to access the drive & copy it's contents to a backup device before formatting & testing the drive and adjusting the IP address to you preferred settings.
The drive can also (probably) be taken out of it's case box and plugged into another case with a USB port on the back or directly into it's ATA or SATA port on the actual drive. This is the preferred way to back up as it's much faster than Network or USB access for large file transfers. You can buy external empty cases. eg. See OWC. Other World Computing website.

Iomega mdhd 360 n

The following may help:

You can either use the management software: Iomega Discovery Tool Home : Read First
or
Instructions to Direct Connect to NAS:
Unplug the NAS from the router
Unplug the pc from the router (if the pc is wireless, disable wireless)
Using Ethernet Cable, plug the NAS directly into the pc with no other devices attached.
Restart the NAS and wait for it to boot COMPLETELY 100%
The NAS will request an address from the PC which will be an APIPA address (this is a 169. address)
Open up your Start Menu and type in CMD in the search bar and select the CMD program.
Type in "arp -a" in the cmd prompt
The first time you use the arp -a in a cmd prompt, it gives you the 169.x.x.x address of "The PC"
You may have to arp -a twice to get the NAS address.
The second time you use the arp -a I will get another APIPA address in the 169.x.x.x address
Take the new address and use it in the web browser just like normal to access the device

I have a Western Digital 500Gb External Hard Drive. when ever i plug it in, i am unable to open any applications on my PC such as Internet Browser, douments Etc.. i am also unable to access my hard drive...

Several things could be happening here:
1. your electronic controller in the hard case has failed.
2. you didn't properly disconnect the external hard drive in Windows > with the
"Safely Remove Hard ware and eject Media" in the task bar.
3. if you have a power supply to the USB drive it may have a damaged power connector or not supply proper power to the device.
4. the drive may not be supported by the motherboard for your PC.
5. Scan the drive with Microsoft Security Essentials" found at Microsoft.com Download ( its free). You may have a virus.

Computers that are hard wired work fine but all wireless devices are unable to find the network

A wireless configuration is needed. It might be a disabled wireless which needs to be enabled or the password has been changed somehow. to access the wireless router:On the computer which is connected directly (wired), open any browser such as Internet Explorer and in the address bar type 192.168.0.1 and hit enter. Use "Admin" for the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears. You're now in setting windows and can enable or disable the wireless or change the wireless password.

Unable to open after initial "set-up".

When unplugging or removing external storage devices there is usually an icon in the lower right bar that is for "Safely Removing" devices.

Before shutting down WITH THE DEVICE INSTALLED you should click on this and remove the device IF you intend to start the machine without having it connected.

At this point, try to power down and reconnect and restart to get back to where you were.

Uable to boot lap top, get unable to locate os and unable to reload os as unable to format drive, would appear hard drive has had enough and gone on holiday for good

Everything you mentioned in your post....points you directly toward hard drive failure. If the mechanical of the drive are still working however, you could try to attach it to a IDE/SATA to USB adapter, attach it to another computer and see if you can access your personal files off of it. That way you might not lose your data if you do not have a sufficient backup.
