Cannot delete print job (by 9 users)

posted by gator on Jan 17, 2007

i have a print job pending in the queue, and i have tried to delete it, but it will not. It says "deleting' but it is not, and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. It is impeding me from printing anything else, even though I set its priority level as low as possible. Help!!!

my hp1315 states print job deleting, but does not delete. I, therefore, pressed into service the standby canon printer which does not pose this difficulty. Kindly email to me your solution for print job not being deleted by hp1315. gusarma@gmail.com 31s7 August 2008

A print job of a banner was interrupted after the 2nd of 4 pages. The printer said "check pape." There was a piece half-way inside, so I hit the on/resume button and the sheet was ejected. When I attempted to print the banner again, it would not. The printer status indicated that there were 2 print jobs pending. I selected cancel all print documents. Only the 2nd print order was deleted, the first one, which was interrupted, says "deleting," but does not delete, and I cannot continue. I'm using matte cardstock paper, which I have used many times successfully. This has happened before, and after a while of turning off the entire system, rebooting, disconnecting the printer from the computer and reconnecting, it would finally delete the pending print job. This time, however, NADA. ZILCH. AAAARRGGH HELP, PLEASE.

I also had similar problems...what i did was to stop the spoolsv.exe. by pressing CTL-ALT-DEL brings up the windows task manager. goto to the Processes tab and look for the image name 'spoolsv.exe', select it then press the End Process button. a confirmation dialog will appear. press yes. Then go to this folder: 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS' you will see a bunch of files, delete all these files. After deleting said files, then press the Start button, press Run. A run prompt will appear. type this 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe'. Then goto to your 'Printers and Faxes' folder and try to refresh your printer. I do this everytime when i can't delete the spooled printer. Hope this helps... :)

click settings-control panel-administrative tools-services-select 'print spool' from the list-in dialog box click stop-and again click on start.
Hope this solves your problem.

have u tried to disconnect the printer from the pc and turn off the pc and the printer?
maybe that can fix, and afterwards connect all and turn the printer on and the pc on.

Did you just upgrade to Internet Explorer 7.0? HP released a patch. I had the same problem. The patch didn't fix it though. I'm still trying to resolve the problem.

i have exactly the same problem with my hp psc 1317. the only way i've found that works to properly delete the print job (when it says it's deleting but isn't) is to turn off the printer and the pc for at least an hour. yep, the good ol' turn it off and on again method never fails!
hope this works for you, from lizzy.

Ok folks... I'm not going to post "Restart Print Spooler" for the 100th time. If anyone has had an update with a solution that would be great. I have a job that has been deleting since July 10th this year. It is setup as a network printer and everyone can print around the stuck job but one user. I have restarted services, deleted and reconnected, power cycled, and looked for above mentioned patch from HP. I am going to uninstall IE7 and see if that somehow pleases the printer gods. I'll update after that...

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", "Administrative Tools","Services".
Scroll halfway down to "Print Spooler".
Right Click on it and "Stop Service".
Then Right click again and "Start Service".
Job is gone.
