Let me tell u the exact problem is that this notebook is only comaptible with windows vista and when u insert the (RedHat)linux AS v4 disc it ask for the drivers, i have come to know that if we change the SATA option to disable in BIOS then we can install the OS as required, but the problem is that this option is not available in BIOS, EVEN WE DOWNGRADED THE BIOS TO F v4.
Now i think u can analyse the situation.

Hello Sir,
I have a compaq pressario CQ40 laptop with pre installed windows vista. Now I need to make it a dual boot machine by installing linux (preferably FC8 or FC10) in it along with vista. However, I am finding it impossible to install linux in it.
Kindly help me out with it. In case I need to install certain drivers before installing linux, then kindly let me know what are the required drivers and also where to get them.

hrm... i'll just assume that this is the first time you've attempted anything with linux? There are vairous Linux distributions, with the Ubuntu flavour seeming to be the best one for the windows to linux switcher (IMO). I would try a live Ubuntu disc first to make sure it's what you're after, which can be downloaded here
http://releases.ubuntu.com/intrepid/ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso

or if you're ready to dive straight in, here is the full version that you burn to a cd and then install
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
