yeah i have the same problem, it switched off because i left it on all night, but when i want to charge it it doesnt seem to charge and i reseted it but it doesnt seem to work!!!

When I turn it off it says "power off.. then turns off the screen, but after some seconds it says "power off".. and then again.. and again. If I turn it on, any option I select goes to "power off". When I fully recharge it this doesn't happen, but when I turn it off, it keeps on the "power off" cycle, discharging the battery.

The problem started suddenly all of a sudden. The player goes into a sequence of events: power off -> restarting and displaying icons and when I click to choose the music library, it turns off. Can this be solved if I reformat? If so, how do I do that? I even tried to reset using apin at the back side reset hole. Still it does not do anything. Is there any virus that sneeked into this player via my PC and if so, can I replace the AuoRun and associated files? Please help to fix this problem. Thanks.

Mine started the same thing yesterday. Have tried reset, flashed the new firmware version, reformatted, and it is still doing the same thing. The on off button doesn't work and when you hit the play button it shuts off then restarts.

I tried something and it seemed to work ( though how long it will lst I don't know ).

1. Let the battery go dead
2. Put the player in the USB port
3. Update with latest Flash Driver ( check the format option )
4. When finished, remove from the USB port WITHOUT disabling the port through Windows ( just pull it out )
5. Hold down the play button and keep it held down.
6. Navigate to Settings.
7. Go to Restart option and click ok. You have to be quick here since you have to release the Play button. Once you get to the next level , keep the play button pressed or else it will shut off
8. Once it says restart is complete, press power button to shut it off.
9. If you have enough power, give it a try otherwise plug it back in USB port for about 5 to 10 min to get a charge.
10. Remove from USB port the same way as before.

    From crua:

FIXED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIXED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did this 3 days ago and it is still working, so I think it is fixed. This is what I did. It seems the chip that Sony uses is a Sigmetel 3600. You have to download a driver for it. This is where I got it :

    http://support.packardbell.com/global/it...

Now run that program. Next, follow these steps. I don't know if the first 2 steps are needed , but I did it anyway. Plug your mp3 in USB slot.

    1. Run the Sony firmware update - get that from Sony site.

    2. Under Windows , format the drive to FAT, not FAT 32
Now comes the tricky part. ( The following is for Vista, Xp should work same way )

    3. Remove your mp3 from USB port. It should still be doing what it was doing.

    4. Hold down the play button and CONTINUE to hold it down as you insert it in USB port. Keep holding it until you hear the computer beep that it acknowledges it ( if doesn't after 30 sec, probably has - just didn't beep ). Release the button.

    5. Go into Device Manager. You will see a folder for Player Recovery Device or STMP3600 ( or something similar ). Open that folder and right click on the file in that folder ( probably called same thing ). Choose Update Driver.

    6. Choose Browse My computer for Driver software .

    7. Click browse button and go to the following folder:

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

    8. Find the folder that starts with STMP.. Highlight it and click next. There may be more than one folder with that name, choose the one with the latest date.

    9. You may get a windows error saying it is a dig signed. Accept it anyway.

    10. Once updated, remove your mp3.

    11. If it doesn't work, run the Sony firmmware update again ( this time with the format box checked ). If it still doesn't work, try steps 4- 10 again.

Sony Walkman - Digital Music Player NWD-B105F

I had the exact same problem with my girlfriends sony nwd-b105 mp3 player. I fixed it by downloading the firmware version 1.2, which can be found here at the sony support link below.

http://support.sony-europe.com/dna/wm/nwf/nwf.aspx?site=&m=NWD-B105&site=odw_en_GB&odw_model=NWD-B105

- Backup your mp3 files
- Make sure your mp3 device is NOT plugged in
- Run the firmware executable
- When it asks for it plug in the mp3 device
- Check option: format data area
- Press Start
- When finished, take the mp3 device out and press the power button
- If everything went well it is creating a database again and will function correctly as usual
- Copy your mp3 files back to the mp3 device
- Enjoy your music again!
