By wiping you mean formatting or re-installing windows? the only way to get rid of a virus 100% is by re-formatting your hard drives. This will delete all data. This can be done when re-installing your OS and is quite easy.

How to erase the hard drive?

You can use a HP recovery disc for your model computer which will return the computer to out of the box condition. You may need to purchase this disc from the HP WEB site.
If you just want to wipe the hard disk clean and sell it without an operating system installed then you can use this program.

Sony VAio touchscreen hypersensitivity

Step 1:
Touch screen monitors are both input and output device as they receive and display information from one peripheral device the monitor screen without the use of mouse or keyboard. They are used in a variety of different applications such as point of sale (POS), cash registers, ATM machines, among others. Touch screen monitors are very sensitive so proper cleaning and maintenance is of utmost importance to maximize its performance and prolong its life. Follow these cleaning steps:

Turn off both the computer and touch screen. This way, you can see everything that needs to be cleaned. Some touch screen applications has a cleaning mode which turns off the screen for the specific purpose of cleaning. However, the monitor's brightness can make you miss some areas. Wet a soft, lint-free or microfiber cloth with distilled water. Wring out as much water as you can. Make sure the cloth is damp but not wet. Wipe the screen in a gentle motion to remove dust, oil, or fingerprint smudges off. Another option is to use a screen cleaner kit that includes antistatic wipes. You can buy this at various electronic or online stores. Spray a little solution on a wipe then rub it gently across the screen. Finish cleaning the touch screen with a dry lint-free cloth to wipe any excess moisture, then turn it back on.

Dvd wont play properly

A) DVD player needs to be cleaned.

The laser optical eye gets dirty overtime.

Computer unplugged from power, if using a can of compressed air for computers. Open DVD tray first before turning off computer, and unplugging from power.

Or alternatively use a cleaning disk.
Gotta tell ya, I do not have much faith in these. Wipes the crud off, then seems to wipe it back on. Your choice.

B) Replace the DVD drive.
Surely it isn't the original one that came with a computer, using an Intel Pentium III CPU.

DVD drive's are mechanical. As such they have a defined 'Life Cycle'.
So many hours of usage, then it's time to replace.

(I would NEVER drop down to 16-bit color. Always 32-bit.

Might drop from 75MegaHertz to 60MegaHertz, though)

Im trying to like wipe everything off of my computer so it wont run like **** nymore i dont knwo how o do it though and im not sure if i have all the disks i need to restore it once its wiped... i have the...

If it has windows xp, vista, or 7 then you can go to help and type in 'recovery' or 'restore' to an earlier date.

If you Recover, then it will go to the first day the computer was used and that is done without recovery disks.

Many if not all computers nowadays do not come with disks, but rely on the image stored ont he hard drive.

The left audio channel & bass is dead.

Double-click the "speaker-volume" icon on the system-tray, to open the "sound-mixer".

Make sure that you have not "panned-100%-left" nor "panned-100%-right", so that 0% of the sound comes out from one speaker, while 100% of the sound comes out from the other speaker.

Also, make sure that no "mute" button has been selected.

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 that I am preparing to sell. I tried to use Dell PC Restore (Control, F-11) to get the computer back to the way it was when I purchased it, and delete my files. The system...

How you wipe the drive depends on what state you want the PC to be in when you sell it. Some of the Dell drivers may be needed for things like video, chipsets, the hard drive(s), modem (if equipped), the CD/DVD drives, sound, etc.

You can wipe the drive and just leave the operating system, then re-boot and see what the operating system finds and needs to install drivers for. That's where you'll need the Dell discs.

Then go to "My Computer", right-click the icon, choose Properties, click the hardware tab and click the Device Manager tab. Check the list of installed devices and if you have any question marks or explamation points. If you do, you may need to install additional drivers for those devices or get them from the vendor on the internet.

A government wipe can be 1 pass, 3 pass, 7 pass DoD, Schneier, or 35 pass Gutmann (takes a long time).

I usually wipe the drive, re-format it, re-install the operating system and drivers and then sell it. This is also a good time to open the case and blow all the dirt out of it. Don't do this in the house - it can make a mess.

If you really want to wipe the hard drive you've got to use dban.

Here's the link.

Unless of course you want someone to recover your files from your "wiped" hard drive.
