Hi. Isn't this a SATA drive? There are no slave/master jumpers for SATA. The jumpers you see are to force the drive to use the slower transfer speed of 150mb/s if being used with old SATA controllers that are not capable of 300mb/s.

Hi,
Find the jumper settings for the maxtor harddrive on the following link. As per the model number you gave ,it seems like you have the maxtor diamond max drive.

I have an extra hard drive that I would like to add as a slave HD to my computer the one I want to be a slave is a MAXTOR model 32049H2. how do I set up the jumper?

moz-screenshot.pngI would guess that it is a diamond max driver, and therefore the jumper setting for slave should be no jumper at all. But in case I am mistaken, here are all the jumper setups for Maxtor drives, choose the one that looks like your setup and then choose the correct Slave setting:oss279.jpg

I have a maxtor H.D. model # 31024h1 , i cannot find the jumper settings to distinguish between master and slave

Typically, for older MAXTOR drives, put the jumper on the 2 pins closest to where the ribbon-cable connects, to set it to 'MASTER'.
Remove all the jumpers to set it to 'SLAVE'.

I want to add another hard drive and need to know how to set the jumpers on my maxtor 90645d3 please help.ty

if you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

Jumper off will set the drive to slave. If you can connect both drives to the same ribbon cable with the master on the end & the slave to the second connector. Look at your bios as win is booting up to see if shows the drive as slave, you will not be able to copy windows as a operating system off of the drive, but should be able to copy files.

Good luck on your endevors.

Setting Maxtor HD as Slave.

Howdy,

First "easy" one I've had in hours....

Just pull the J50 pin out of the jumper block and PRESTO it'll be a slave the OFF position literally reffers to having the J50 pin off of the hard drive. Just a note though, I highly recommend using a peice of scotch tape to affix the pin to a nearby surface cause there a real pain to find if and when you need em again.

Have maxtor 40gb hd want to add 2nd WD hd in DEll dim8200

(if both drives on the same cable):
Your boot drive goes at the end of the primary data cable.
Your second drive goes on the middle connection of the same cable.
The red stripe on the data cable needs to be closest to the power connection (red stripe to pin 1).
The jumper on the boot drive set to master.
The jumper on the second drive set to slave.
Look in the BIOS to make sure it sees both harddrives.
Boot the system.. it will need to be partitioned and formatted if not already..
Regards..

Pin settings

There are four Jumper settings on a Maxtor:

(got it from http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-32378-Windows-XP-Home--No-boot-device-help.html)

posted by by mr.smit:

"The 2nd row, is for DS(Master): only 1 drive in PC, or the drive that you want to boot up from.
The 3rd row, is CS Enabled: Cable select, the computer desides wich harddisk is master and wich one is slave
The 4th is cap limit: windows cannot run on harddisks that are to big, like 300gb, so putting jumper on cap limit (capacity limit) makes it smaller for windows to use it.
The 5th row has no use, or i don't know what it does, either of that 2."

I would like to add about the DS (Slave) setting. It is used if there is another drive present on the system which you want to boot from. It will become a spare Hard Disk.

Here is a picture of a maxtor drive indicating where to find model number and jumper settings.
