Will not ring

I have registered the phones, i have set the ring volume to high but it will not ring. The old phone rang on that line with no problem but can not get this system to ring. We know someone is calling as the fax machine on the same line rings. Otherwise the phones work good.

My phone will not ring anymore - neither the handset or the base unit. There is no menu button to push. HELP!

You can select the ringer volume to HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW or OFF on the handset and the base unit separately. The factory preset is HIGH. If set to OFF, the unit will not ring for external calls and will ring at the LOW level for intercom calls.

1. Does the phone dial out ?
If yes go to next question. If No check line.
2. Do the displays flash when the call comes in ?
If yes go to next question. If No check line.
3. Is the volume setting too low.

Can not tune the ringer on

You should be able to change the ringer settings in two ways when the handset is not in use. 1) Press and hold the Volume up/Down arrows on the handset. The handset should show the current ringer setting (High, Low, Ringer Off). Press Select. The current setting should flash and you will hear the current volume (if the ringer is on). Use the up/down arrows to select your desired setting; the phone should give a ring. Then press Select to confirm. Again the phone should ring.
2) Press Prog. Use the up/down arrows to select Ringer Volume. Then press Select and use the up/down arrows to chose a new volume. Press Select to confirm.

If your phone still does not ring, there are items to check.
Try a new telephone line cord and make sure that the base is plugged into a working outlet. Move closer to the base.
Make sure that you are away from other electronics that could interfere. Check that you do not have too many devices plugged into your phone line. Each one should have an REN (ring equivalence number). The total REN for all devices should be 5 or less; disconnect the other extensions/devices and test again.
Make sure that the phone is providing a dial tone and a test phone will ring when dialed. (I like to use an old corded phone for testing.) If a test phone won't ring, you have a wiring problem. See additional trouble-shooting information below.
Remove the battery in the handset and then reconnect it. Wait for the handset to synch with the base and try again.
If you have a DSL filter, try replacing it.
The manual for the CS5121 is available from V-Tech here: .

Phone line testing:
Using a test phone with a new line cord, check for dial tone and ring at the first jack. If your test phone rings, then the problem is the handset. Move to another jack on the line and test again. If you get a ring here, the first jack or the wiring to the jack has a problem. If there is no ring, find where your service comes in. Open the box and check the type of connection. If you have a relatively new phone service, you'll find an RJ-11 jack. Plug in your test phone and check for dial tone and ring. If it doesn't work or there is no RJ-11 jack, contact your service provider. They can test the line and will repair any outside problems for free. If the problem is inside, you will need to look at all the exposed wiring for damage. If only the one jack is bad, open it up and check that the wires are properly connected. There are two types of jacks: one secures the conductors with screws, the other is a keystone. The keystone jacks require a punch down tool to press in the conductors. This punchdown tool is available from many home improvement stores in the wiring section. This site has a picture of how the conductors should be connected: .

If the handset is bad, you can try a replacement handset, if available. If the phone is under warranty, contact V-tech. Otherwise decide if it is worth servicing, these phones were not meant to be user serviced.

I hope this helps.

Phone does not ring on incoming calls. The manual suggests "make sure ringer is on." Where is the ringer?

Ringer On/Off and Ringer Volume 1. Make sure your phone is in idle mode. (not in Talk mode) 2. Press the VOL (- or +) button to activate the ringer volume setting. 3. Press either the LINE 1 or LINE 2 Soft key to select the desired line. 4. The LCD will display the volume range and currently-selected volume in an ascending series of bars. 5. Press the VOL (- or +) button up or down to increase or decrease the volume in steps. 6.The system will retain the last entry, it is not necessary to save or acknowledge your selection from this mode.
It is also possible you have set the DND (Do Not Disturb) feature which will also caution your phone not to ring when a call comes in.
Have a great day. Hope this helps.

Phones do not ring

Check the DND button- it's the far right button on the top row. If DND is not on, your ringer volume is probably turned down.

The volume is set independently per line. To set the volume:

1. Press Conf, then using the dialpad, press either 1, 2, 3 or 4 to indicate which line you want to adjust.

2. Press one of the VOLUME buttons to increase or decrease the ringer volume.

There are several things to ask yourself.
1. Do you have the manual?
2. Is there any software programming which relates to set ring?
3. Is there a manual switch for ring on/ring off?
4. Will another phone ring when plugged into the same jack?
IF NOT, the red and green wire may be reversed at the jack.
5. Lastly, has this cordless handset ever rang?
Most cordless sets have a volume control from off to loud. I hope this will help you solve your problem.

VOIP will no ring

Just "VOIP Phone" is not enough information to help you. There are many hundreds of different phones, connections, & setups you could have. What type of phone (make, model number)? Is this a VOIP phone connected through a home network, cable modem etc.. for home use? Is it a single line phone connected to a VOIP box connected to your cable modem? Is it a VOIP phone system connected to regular copper phone lines? Are you using a VOIP phone at home connected to a VOIP phone system at work?
