Question about Jl Audio 12W3 Car Subwoofer

Could a ground stop your woofer from working?

My whole system is hook up right and it sounds very clean until, the subs just shuts off. All my high are still working fine, but my woofer, just shuts off. The fuse of the amp is not dead, the amp itself it's on green, it doesn't smell like it's burn, the woofer itself is not burn. The amp is on, but it seems like no power is coming from the amp to the woofer, cause i tried another woofer to the amp and it did not work. Could it be the ground for the amp or other line for the amp is not working or whatever it is that is not hooking right that made my woofer died.

First check the speaker wire from the amp to the sub, see if it's connected right. Second check the rca cables that goes from your amp to the back of the deck. I f both wires are still connected fine try to replace the rca cables. If it still doesn't work the rear out put at the back of your deck, where the rca's are connected are bad. FYI deck is bad.

I've everything hooked up right and the subs not hitting but it does work because I checked it so what am I doing wrong?

Make sure you've run your ground wire properly and the connection to the battery is sound. Check that the wire ends are clean and rated for your amp and woofer. Make sure you have a ground wire running from the amp to something metal on the car so the system is well grounded. Check that your switch wire running to the head unit is tapped into the correct wire such that when that wire is active(I.e. Head unit powered on) the amp also turns on and relays the signal to your woofer. Buying a wiring kit is the easiest way to do all of this as most come with all necessary wires, color coded, with instructions if you still can't figure it out.

I ended up with one piece of a Teac model CD-X8 MIcro Hi Fi System. you can see what the whole system looks like at http://www.amazon.com/Remanufactured-CD-X8-Wall-Mountable-System-Subwoofer/dp/B000B65GV6...

Yes - you have the sub-woofer. It is a powered sub-woofer with a built in amplifier for both itself and a pair of small satellite speakers. Frankly, given the low cost of the whole system it may not be worth selling on ebay due to the high shipping costs of such an item, but I imagine you could get $30 for it or so on local craigslist or something, assuming you have no use for a sub-woofer...

I have a Fisher RS-909 Surrond Sound amplifier. It has no "sub out" jack. I had the sub-woofer working in the past by wiring it as shown in the manual. The problem is that the system was in...

Alright i had a chance to look over things, this is how you are going to hook up the sub. first we'll be connecting the surround sound unit to the sub woofer.
surround sound unit sub woofer
left front: positive (+) <-----to------------->(+) left speaker level in
negative ( - )<- - -to- - - - - - ->( - ) left speaker level in

right front: positive (+) <-----to------------->(+) right speaker level in
negative ( - )<- - -to- - - - - - >( - ) right speaker level in

now that the surround sound unit is connected to the sub woofer you will need to connect the front surround sound speakers to the sub woofer.
sub woofer front surround sound speaker
left speaker level out (+)<-----to--------> (+) left front speaker
left speaker level out( - ) <- - - to- - - - ->( - ) left front speaker

right speaker level out (+)<-----to--------> (+) right front speaker
right speaker level out( - ) <- - - to- - - ->( - ) right front speaker

Alright now that the wires are all over the place and plugged in
turn everything on and see how it sounds. let me know if everything is working as it should. if you need help with anything else or if something does not seem right please feel free to contact me via e-mail or phone

Do you know if my woofer is blown?

well if you hear a rattle sound its probably already blown...and the amp could be drawing too much power if the radio shuts off...make sure all your wiring is correct. also if your car is off and you turn it up it will most likely shut off cause the battery cant handle it. but as for the sub i think its blown. good luck

RCA Sub-Woofer

Did you try making sure the subwoofer is turned on under the set up menu on the Sony Receiver?

Press Set Up, Press the left or right button above the scroll wheel until you get to SW. It should say SW: ON or SW: OFF. If it says SW: OFF, use the Scroll wheel to scroll right until it says SW: ON. Also, make sure you aren't in 2CH mode, try A.F.D or surround sound.

Sub

Most amplified sub woofers need to be grounded to the output source.If you plug the sub woofer in to the receiver you would use a ground wire from the receiver to the sub woofer there should be a ground terminal on the sub woofer and receiver.
