Re: frig temp

Do a "temp" test. Put a normal thermometer in a glass of water and put it in the fridge overnight. Is the water temp matching the set point temp? It can be +/- 5 degrees (not an exact science sort of thing). But basically if the fridge is working OK and you just have a setpoint I'd say it's probably not worth the effort to change the thermistor, etc.

How do I get my maytag side by side refrigerator model# msd2756geq to cool down below 50

first turn your refrigerator temp setting to 1 then wait for the compressor to kick off, this will send the unit into defrost mode, and most units take between 1 to 2 hours to acclimate(get tempered) correctly. after a few hours gradually turn your unit towards 9 until the compressor kicks on, when it does , stop turning the knob, it will acclimate again, 1-2 hours (some units can acclimate in 15 minutes) check your unit temp and do not use the unit if it won't cool down to 43 or less degrees, you run the chance of food poisoning. hope this was helpful.

My refrigerator kicks on and off but will not cool below 48 degrees

It may be kicking off on low gas, or the cap tubes or the evaporator valve is malfunctioning. A professional technician will have to check it out.

Why does the freezer portion temp indicator bounces between 0 and -12 degrees periodically.

Temps should fluctuate, as the refrigerator will go into a defrost mode every so often. Some models will go into defrost mode after you open the freezer door X amount of times, say 6. So every 6th time you open the door it will go into defrost. Then some models go every 4 to 6 hours depending on settings. Then also, it is normal due to temp control. Temp setting is -10 The fridge will run to that temp setting, -10 and shut off the compressor at -10 but due to pressures it will still cool a bit to your -12. it will stay in this off mode until the temp rises 8 to 10 degs. then kicks back on the compressor. Again due to pressures it may take the system 2 - 3 degs to catch back up and start cooling again. But you maintain average temp of -5 to -6 which is great for frozen food and saves a bit of electricity. As long as the door seals are in good shape and you clean the coils underneath once twice a year it should work fine for many years. Then lastly It may have a lag in the thermostat meaning it has gotten week or going bad. Hope this helps.

Frig won't cool RM2652

You'll need to get in touch with the store you bought it from but Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Good day,
No real solution except to put it in a warmer location.
Understand, it is a refrigerator with the freezer just going along for the ride.
All manufacturers state the machine must be in an area that is no colder than 55 degrees.
The problem you have, is once the refrigerator section reaches temperature 34 to 39 degrees, it shuts the whole machine off. If the air temp surrounding the machine is near or approaching that temp, it shuts off, and may be off most of the day,
Domestic refrigerators are engineered to operate in area comfortable to people. Normally 70 to 95 degrees. Below that it will begin to unbalance.

My frig. in the garage.. The freezer works great in summer months but in winter months it doesn't. Why is that?

Good day,
That is normal. The thermostat that runs the whole machine is located in the refrigerator compartment.
When it reaches normal temperature, it shuts off. In winter months that may mean as long as 12 hours or more. Thus not enough running time per day to keep the freezer near it's normal temperature.
Engineers design domestic refrigerators to be in an area comfortable to humans. Normally 70 degrees or higher. Thus your problem.
The only solution is to bring the machine inside.

Freezer quits working

Solution Found! The problem is when the temperature surrounding the refrigerator in the garage falls to < 45 degrees, the thermostat regulating the refrigerator will not call for the compressor to kick in to provide cooling (it's temperature requirements are being met). Since there is no demand, the compressor will not cycle, which is how the freezer is kept cold, and the freezer eventually warms up to match the refrigerator temperature. Frigidaire makes a "Cold Kit" that I ordered and installed from for $22 (Item #: 1037646; Description: Garage kit). It's basically a strip heater that runs off the control power to warm the thermostat and causes the compressor to cycle once to twice a day to keep the freezer frozen. After installation, the refrigerator stays at 40-45 and the freezer stays around 0 degrees.
