Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

Replacement drive for HP DV5000

My hard drive is toast - not recognized on any bootup sequence. What kind of hard drive will I need to replace it? Will the unit accept a 250 gb drive? I assume all you have to do is take the screws off the back and swap out old drive for new. Will the BIOS recognize the new drive? Will Windows OS load right up?

I have a HP pavilion DV5000 in front of me and the hard drive interface is not SATA. It is a PATA interface.

Cant access HITACHI TRAVELSTAR 5K250 HTS542516K9SA00 160GB drive

If the drive cannot be accessed then the logic board on the hard drive is toast. U can remove the sata drive and install it into a working desktop with sata connections and see if the desktop recognizes it.

When installing on another computer, make sure that you are still booting up from the working sata drive originally there. If you change the bootup sequence to the allegedly non working drive and it does work you may corrupt the operating system in the bootup process. Just put it in there and see if the other computer boots up and recognizes it. Often if a hard drive is really bad the defective unit will prevent a good working computer from booting up at all.

It depends how the bios is set up. Usually hard drive is first followed by any combination. Check the bios settings.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 and it locks up even in safe mode, waking up, or will not recognize harddrive when trying to bootup.

I suspect you have a hard drive error. Run CHKDSK/F or Scandisk/F as soon as you get it going or replace the hard drive and reinstall the system to the new drive.

Can I replace orig hp ze1115 20GB hd w/60GB hd?

No the bios should be able to read the drive fine. The problem could be with the computer's motherboard. You should check to see if the original drive and new drive is detected in another system. Or you can try accessing them via an external casing / adapter.

Dimension 1100 not booting. In Boot sequence screen, says "Hard drive not installed"

Your hard drive is probably toast and needs to be replaced and Windows reloaded.

Make sure to check your BIOS settings first and make sure the drive is showing up in there and it's not deactivated.

I would say it would be best to just replace the whole keyboard. It's not hard, just time-consuming, & you can get a good price for one on eBay.

Change boot sequence for HP L2000

Hi,
You need to enter BIOS at startup. The correct key to press will be displayed at the bottom of the black screen when you bootup. Usually, F10, F8 or F11 or Del. Mash them all on booting up.
Now navigate the Bios settings with the arrow buttons and select cdrom as 1st boot device with the enter button. Then Save and Exit.
