How to install Windows XP

Vista installation:

Windows Vista

Before you start doing any installing, you need to plan your installation. You need to keep in mind that
all the data on your C drive(System Drive) will be lost, thus, you need to backup all the data you would want to keep.
Also, you need to make sure that you have all the drivers that you need to complete a successfull installation.

Once you have backed up all the data you would want to keep, and have all the drivers needed, we can start the installation.

The first step will be to instert the CD/DVD of Windows Vista into yourCD/DVD trey. Restart your computer and boot from the CD/DVD.
Once the booting process have started, you will see this screen

Now you will continue to the GUI interface of the installation process. The screen looks like this. If you need to change any regional settins, do it before you proceed to the next step.

Now choose to install now.

Now, if you have a product key at hand, enter it before you proceed, otherwise, you can proceed without entering the product key. Remember, that if you choose to proceed without entering the product key, you will be asked to activate your windows within the first 5 restarts.

Now you need to choose which version of Windows Vista you would like to install, remember, in order to proceed you need to check the license and agreement policy.

Now you need to choose the Custom(Advanced) Option to continue to do a clean install. The Upgrade function is blurred out, because you need to start the DVD/CD in Windows to upgrade.

Ok, now you will see al the Hard drives in your computer, and will also be able to choose on which Hard drive you would like to install Window on. For this learning purpose i only have on drive connected, so you might have more drives than in the picture. Also, you can partition your drive at this step, choose the size you would like to have the drives and partition it.
If you do not want to partition, just click on the Format button, in order to Format your drive to NTFS file system, once completed, click next.

Once you have chosen the drive on which you would want to install Windows click next to proceed. The next screen is the installation screen, this will take a couple of minutes, and your computer may restart several times.

Now, the computer will reboot and start with the next step of installation.

Now you will enter the admin Part of this process. You need to choose you username and password. Type in the abovementioned and click to proceed.

Now you need to enter a name for your computer, for when you are connected to a network, there is no hassle to know which computer is yours..

Once you have clicked to proceed you will be promted with the following screen. Just choose to use recommended settings.

At the next screen you will be able to choose your time settings.Click to proceed.

Now we are done. The previous screen is the last step in the process. The next couple of screen will finalise the process. Once done, you will be able to load your drvers and BE A HAPPY CAMPER!!!

And now we are done. The next screen you will see, is the first time you enter Windows Vista. Just remember that most of your drivers will be loaded, but there will be some drivers which will still need to be installed.

At the link below you will be able to check out Windows Vista error codes and what you can try to resolve it.

Hope this can be of help, as a How to Guide.

Kind regards

When I start up the computer, it occasionally freezes up and I have to re-start it. What causes that? I use Windows Vista Home Premium, 64 bit.

There are many reasons that cause your PC to hang upon start-up.

1. Start-up programs ie outdated or not compatible
2. Outdated Drivers of your hardwares
3. Your PC is infected with "dangerous objects"
4. Hardware failing..
4.. Softwares and hardware incompatibilities installed on PC.
5. etc......

You have to troubleshoot to narrow down the causes.

My asus computer has just crashed, it wont open the vista it says windows could not start, a recent modification could be the cause of this problem, how do i get it started

press f8 key at early boot and choose "safe mode". if that boots, "last known good configuration" should get rid of bad added driver, if that won't work go to help and support in safe mode and pick an earlier restore point for when it did work.

I have a toshiba A205 5813 that will only function in safe mode. None of the drivers will come on in normal mode resulting in a black screen with the cursor when i load it up. I tried running the chkdsk...

Have you tried running repair my computer and system restore, either from the F8 menu or from a recovery disk? Try that to begin with, or run startup repair.
Otherwise, some good suggestions in this post. unfortuanately, you're not alone.
Among them this one:
A simple solution to resolve this black MS screen follow the below

1- Run Vista with safe mode command prompt
2- Type “msconfig” and hit Enter key,
3- select “Diagnostic Sartup” option, click on Apply then OK
4- System will ask restart the PC, choose yes,
5- System will start logging off but it will stuck at this stage, force
your PC to shutdown by pressing and holding on the power button until it
is off
6- Start your PC “et Voila” it will work

- it is possible that some of your services will not start or function
properly (this is an other problem)
- This solution tested on Vista Home Premium 32bit OS

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

First question is do you have the vista disk ? If so , here are the steps to repair. Insert disk ....instead of selecting install vista , after the language selection box , select repair a menu will then be shown with the options you can choose from , choose start-up repair , this will repair missing files or disk errors. once selected no more input is needed from you. Hope this helps !
