Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-135mm Lens

1 Answer

I have a Nikon D80 with an 18-135mmNikkor lens.  It's about two months old.   Yesterday I was outside, on a snowy day,and a couple of times, I pressed the shutter release button and it would not take a picture.  I turned it on and off a couple of times, and my son looked at it and "pressed a couple of buttons", and then it worked.  This happened about three times.  I  wondered if it was because the camera was cold.  However, it was a beautiful wintery day - about 30 degrees.     Tonight, my niece asked to borrow the camera to take pictures tomorrow at a state football game.  I turned on the camera to show her the basics  (after recharging the battery - it was set),and again the camera would not take a picture.  This time, the focus circle and dots were flashing red.    Please help.   Thanks.

It would not focus on anything. Shutter was locked and there was no focus capability. .

We removed the lens and reaattached it. Something reset, and it now works.

I suggest pointing the camera to an image which has more contrast as opposed to pointing it into a clear blue sky which has no clouds at all. the AF might have some trouble looking for cue to focus. go manual focusing and see the difference.

Try removing the lens. Turn it on. Press the shutter a few times. Re-attach the lens and try it.

Blinking green led even D90 is off

I couldn't find a reference to a blinking green led when the d90 is off.

I would refer you to Nikon tech support for this one.

Nikon s50 lens error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

Nikon Coolpix S202

My nikon coolpix s210 had a "lens error" after several months of use. The tapping of the camera against my hand did not work. Eventually i did use the method of putting my nail under the lens and pulling as I tried turning the camera on. I had to apply a good amount of force and was afraid i would break the camera, but after doing this several times, the lens did click back into place.

Wont turn on but light is blinking

Are there any error messages on the LCD display?

Will the camera lens stay out when the camera is turned on?

Can you still take a photo/flash/sound without seeing the photo?

If the camera will not turn on even with a fresh set of batteries it could have a system or lens error in the camera.

a possible lens jamb when closed and the green led on top comes on then shuts off after the lens attemps to extend but cant.

Nikon Coolpix S5 lens cover won't open

Hi Debscan, My 1.4 year old S5 developed the same problem and after checking out various websites I get the impression that it is a common one to these cameras. I found that if I put the camera on a level table and then turn it on (and off) 3 times the lens cover would open further with each try. On the third turn-on the lens cover would drop fully with a definite "Click" and the camera would work. The next time I shut it off, the lens would not close properly, but the same "Third times the charm" routine would always work. This may only delay the inevidable final crash of the camera, but it might get you a few more pictures out of it.
