There's a lot of conversations about that PC at: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-95-98-me/122430-packard-bell-955-amd-k6.html
Not sure if it will help, but it will give you some information about your system. (I just plugged in "packard bell model 955" into Google and found that.)

I would suggest going to the Packard Bell Support web site then select your country followed by selecting your model of computer which will then give you access to any available documentation to help you with upgrading memory etc.

Trying to switch on my packard bell computer but my power light is just flashing orange

This generally is a power supply problem. Take it to a local store, not a big box store, and have them do a quick test. It is generally free if you buy a new power supply from them.

I have a packard bell computer - Imedia 1328, and have purchased a memory mod. 512MB DDR PC3200. How do I install it. IN easy step by step instructions for a silver surfer, please.

assuming you bought the right memory chip...

power down the computer. Unplug the power cord from the case. You can leave the other cables attached as long as you have room to work. Open the case. There should be a couple of Phillips screws on the back edge to release the side panel. Once you can see inside the pc, you will see all sorts of cards and cables. Blow out any dust bunnies. Find the empty slot next to a card that looks just like the one you bought. Don't touch the metal contacts on the memory chip. Notice the notch on the edge of the chip and the matching notch in the empty slot on the computer. Gently, but firmly push the memory chip into the slot. It should give a little click.

Plug in the power cord, reboot computer.

I have read many posts about the PB Imedia and problems trying to upgrade memory. Sounds like there are some motherboard issues with this PC . Some have reported success with mixing different memory types and speeds, but no real answers as to why.

You may have to check the voltage that powers the memory. Some memory sticks are rated at 1.8v , others use other voltages that will hang your system if mixed.

Check with the manufacturer for their recommendation.
