Blank screen i have a thinkpad notebook and when i turn it on, the screen is blank.. the power light is lit, but the monitor remains blank. i have tryed hooking up a desktop monitor to my thinkpad but it does not work either. i am not sure if i need to do something else to the thinkpad so that i can view on a different monitor. please advise. the desktop monitor works fine with my dell computer. i hear a noise at start up, but i am not sure if it is a beep. i have tryed the the buttons fn and fn & f7 as suggested by manual, but nothing happens. does this problem mean i need a new monitor or could it something else.

It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. With the computer on and the shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the laptop this is usually an economically repairable problem. SOURCE: check signal message when data cable unplugged. blank screen when data cable plugged

This problem is most likely to be caused by a bent or broken pin on the CRT video cable at the VGA connector, OR, this could also be caused by a damaged VGA connector on the back of the laptop. If neither VGA connector is at fault, the problem could be caused a damaged (kinked) CRT data cable, or internal damage to the VGA connector on the back of the laptop, though I suspect the problem is more likely to be external, and you probably won't have to disassemble the laptop to locate the culprit...

SOURCE: Blank Screen

ccfl ( cold cathode flouroscent lamp ) is the backlit feature of the lcd panel. If you see a blank screen but do see the output on the external monitor then you sure have to take it to the hardware tech to get the inbuilt LCD panel checked. it seems to be a electronic failure. Thanks Ashish.

Have signal, but no light, just one second screen can see and shut off.

Please clarify by shut off you mean power light turn off or just screen gone blank but power light remain on!

Mostly inverter(power supply) needs attention in such cases.

I have 2 of these monitors with the same problem. On power up the green led will light & remain on but the screen remains black. On one of the monitors the screen will light up for a few seconds then...

The inverter that turns on the back light may be bad - it's suppose to create the high voltage pulses to fire the CCFL back light lamps. Apparently the back light turns on after a few seconds however, it cannot stay on because the inverter might be bad. If you connect a known external CCFL lamp to the to the inverter output you can isolate the inverter.

Blank screen

This looks like a problem with the video card or the power supply to the monitor. Try connecting a different monitor and if you still face the same problem then probably you may need to have a look at your video card or its connection in motherboard

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC) Your monitor provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your monitor is functioning properly. If your monitor and computer are properly connected but the monitor screen remains dark, run the monitor self-test by performing the following steps:
  1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper Self-Test operation, remove Analog (blue connector) cables from the back of computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. The floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains green and the self-test pattern will scroll through the screen continually.
  4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Dell 1503FF flat panel monitor is blank

If you power switch does not light up. It possible that the Horizontal Output Transistor (HOT) is shorted.

Look for bulged or leaking capacitors on the power supply board. If you can solder, you should be able to replace them with the same type and rating and that may just solve the problem. I've had luck with a couple of dozen monitors so far.
