i notice the needle is going down but its not catching the thread when it goes into the fabric. i had someone look at it and they told me it was the timing.. how do i fix it?
your problem must be fixed by now but here is timing. If you are mechanical enough to pull covers off and find why the timing is wrong, A stripped gear or belt or a loose lock screw. Retiming: A new needle must go to the bottom and begin to rise. At this point the rotary or oscillating hook tip must pass through the escarpment on the back of the needle just above the eye.. Repeat for left and right hand needle swing on zigzag machines. There should be no space between the needle and the tip of the hook at this point. There may be needleguards to correct or limit this. Be aware the timing slip could just be the needle bar. Usually thst this be rotating the needlebar. If it mooves it will have slipped upward. Lower it according to the above. A n eedle always threads towards the flat on the top. nev777auau@yahoo.com.au

Hi teranm...If it is indeed a timing issue, you should use a technician to correct it. If your "someone" continues to "look at it", and begins to understand the timing process, and discovers how readily accessible the Set Screws are, they may want to chance it. But what they will not perceive until it's too late, is that on Oscillating Hooks, such as what you have, once you loosen the set screws on the Hook, you now have a Distance Issue to keep your Timing Issue company. The tolerance of distance is much more minute than timing tolerance....good luck my friend.
