I have a Whirlpool top loading washer Model # LSR8233EQ0 that the water mixing valve needs to be replaced. How do you get to that valve? Do you remove the back of the machine or go from the front?

Do not remove the back.Take 2 screws off front ends of console and pull slightly forward and flip it up- it is hinged on the backPop off two spring clips that engage cabinet. Unplug lid switch wire. Tilt cabinet forward and the whole thing comes off. Thanks, please leave feedback or contact me again for more info if you need it.

We have to turn the water on from the wall to get the machine to work, then afterwards, we have to cut the water source off if not, it will keep running.

One of the solenoids in the fill mix valve is stuck open. The mix valve will have to be replaced. Its a fairly easy repair on a top load and the part is about fourty dollars.

This problem is commonly caused by a water inlet valve (also known as a mixing valve) leaking by. If you live in an area that has hard water, or if you use well water, sediment, rust or calcified deposits can accumulate in the inlet valve and cause it not to close properly. Usually when they start leaking, you need to replace them. The following link explains how to access and replace the valve:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575881-replacing_water_inlet_valve_on_whirlpool

If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement valve is 285805.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

When control on warm or hot no warm or hot water comes out, just cold

The problem is a bad hot water solenoid on the water inlet valve (also known as a mixing valve). There is a separate solenoid for hot and cold water. If the hot water solenoid fails, you will not have any warm or hot water. Replacement is simple and inexpensive. The following link explains how to access and replace the inlet valve on a Kenmore top loading washer:

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites offer great service. Prices vary between them so shop and compare.

If you have any questions about this repair, or have need additional assistance, please post back with your complete model number (located along the wash tub rim under the washer lid). I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Kenmore is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions do apply.

My Washer is only filling with hot water and cannot complete the rinse cycle because hot water is not an option.

You may have a defective cold water solenoid on the water inlet valve. There is a separate solenoid for hot and for cold. Since nearly all washers use cold water only during the rinse cycles, you are correct, the washer will not complete a full cycle. You will need to replace the inlet valve. The following link explains how:

This is a very simple and inexpensive repair. The average cost is about $30-$35. A replacement can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

If you need further assistance, please post back with your complete model number (located under the wash lid along the tub rim), so that I may be able to provide you with better service. I hope this helps you.

Need to Know how to remove top and cabinet

first, do you have phillips screws on back of console at bottom goin down or in front bottom? one or the other remove these then slide console forward and fold back on hinge on top. if no screws then clips are hidden on front edge on end plates. use putty knife from front to push and release lifting console at same time. fold back.
use screw driver to pry and release brass clips holding top to rear panel. unplug lid sw connector and pull cabinet body away from machine. top and cabinet is screwed together and removed as one piece. cabinet hinges under base on front and sits on top of sides.

WHIRLPOOL TOP LOADER OVERFILLING WATER

While it is filling up try this. Unplug the washer from the wall, if the water still runs then you need to replace the mixing valve. If the water stops then take the screws out at the base of the console and flip the controls back. Look for the clear hose that goes to the water pressure switch and make sure that it is connected. If it is connected take it off the switch and blow through it to see that it is clear of any obstructions.
If this only overfills after the first ore second wash then you may have the slow drain and the drain hose is in the downspout too tight.
Possible items needed;
#1 mixing valve
#2 pressure switch
#3 plumber
