To get your patio heater to light first check the tank has plenty of LPG/gas and the regulator is turned to on. Next turn the gas control knob to pilot (on some heaters this is a red line on others it has a spark symbol) and press in - hold for at least 30 secs. Press the piezo ignitor several times and continue to hold for another 60 secs. Gently ease off the pilot to release and turn to full power. You should hear the gas jet come on. If there is air in the pipes you might have to repeat. Fould this site very useful patio heater top repair tips.
Hi, First check if you have a full tank and that the pipes are clear of any insects, water or debris. Next see if you have a spark where the pilot is, if you can hear the piezo clicking but cannot see a spark then check the lead. Sometimes the lead can get loose and short out lower down and prevent the spark from reaching the pilot. You may need to take the lead out to fully check. If you have a spark and gas is reaching the pilot then check the tilt switch, if faulty it can turn the gas valve off. To check you can just short out the tilt switch, found this site very useful patio heater problem solving.
Since cleaning the heaters inner workings did resolve the problem, that leaves only one other thin ... The Thermocouple has failed and needs to be replaced. It's not difficult to do, but does a take a little time and patience. Since you didn't mention what brand and model number heater you have, it's hard to direct you to where to purchase the replacement thermocouple. However, Blue Rhino manufactures most of the Patio Heaters under several different names and models, that's the place to start. Their Customer Support number is 1.800.762.1142.

(pressing control knob in) for not more than 1 - 2 minutes or until you
may be a blockage in the orifice or pilot tube? Bugs and spiders get
into the pilot assembly, venturi tube and burner ports causing the unit
to either not light or poor performance.
Is the regulator hose pinched or kinked?

If the piezo igniter won't spark to light the pilot, check the wiring to the igniter, It may simply have lost it's ground. Slide the wire off the igniter prong (looks like a thick needle) on the pilot assembly and then push it back on. That usually will reestablish the ground.
