It depends upon how much time you run your laptop on battery power, you can keep an eye on the battery charge level when you connect it to mains power. You do not need to keep it on mains power all the time, only when the battery level drops to a low level and needs charging. The laptop will warn you when it is low on battery power.
Check the voltage at the pins of the adapter. If present accordingg to the specifications then connect to the laptop and remove the battery from behind. Now check the voltage at the battery terminal of the laptop. if there is low or no voltage to the desired level then there are problems within the main board as this insufficient voltage will not charge the battery makeing it go down below level.
Sounds like the HDD is corrupted what you need to do is goto the drives manufactures website and download their hard drives utilities software,
follow the instructions on how to make a bootable disk then shut down the computer reboot and run the utilities software, if you have nothing you need to save off the drive, Then do a low level format this can take upto an hour or more depending on how big the drive is
once you have done the low level format (this wipes everything off the drive) then reboot the system and format the drive in windows this will rewrite the master boot record in windows format
some manufactures don't have a format utility because there are so many differentsystem file formats.
just download the software and follow on screen instruction to change xp theme to vista...

issue. so it will be highly appreciated if provide your feedback.. Thanks for using fixya support..You have a wonderful day
It came with the SATA drive, Go into BIOS settings, hard drive settings from whatever existing (I am slipping the exact name from my mind now). Make sure you save the settings, go into Bootable options and make sure your cd rom is the first to boot, put the cd in, restart your machine and thats it............make a clean install of xp. By the way I am also not a big fan of vista.
