Question about GE GSL22JFPBS Side by Side Refrigerator

Fridge stops working for no reason

Hi, The fridge stops working and after a few hours when I unplug and replug it back in starts to work. The blower and the compressor start working. Looks like an overheating issue may be? The blower has a coil in front of it. Is this a temperature sensor? or is the compressor over heating?

Thanks

This is the plastic piece located on the compressor that turns the compressor on you would also need to pull the unit out and take off the back panel and clean around the compressor and start relay area this way as well if you have never done this there would be alot of build up if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helepd it allows me to help others in similar situations p.s remove the start relay and shake it in your hand if you are hearing something jingling on the inside of the relay replace the relay Thanks Rick

Hi, clicking sound from compressor, means compressor not running (working) compressor overlay relay is what making that clicking sound, possible your compressor have a hard start, you can purchase compressor ( hard start kit ) from appliance store, your fans could be working, but compressor short cycling, you said fan not working? which one inside of ref, or one near to compressor, check fan, remove 2 wires from fan terminal, use ohm tester, place tester lead one on each fan terminal, if you get a beep sound (continuity) fan is o/k, if not, fan burnt out, replace fan, now if compressor is good, fans are good, then check or replace, defrost timer, but before doing any repairs, unplug ref, excessive water is because ref defrosting, because there's no refrigeration, remove your produce, leave ref. off for about an hour, then replug it, let it work for about another hour, then check to see if temp. dropping (colder) maybe you experiencing, low voltage, let me know what happened, then i can tell you exactly, what's the problem. good luck.

When plugged in, the compressor never kicks on. It just clicks.

If the compressor is getting hot then the compressor is gone. But the price on a relay is fairly cheap so you can at least try it and if it doesnt work then return it and dump the unit. But like I said before when a compressor gets hot it means that the piston is bad and the rings are burnt and the oil is bad in the compressor.

Quick Fix?

The compressor is locking up when it gets hot. We have seen alot of this on the units with Tecumseh compressors. If it is less than 5 yrs old it should still be covered by the sealed system warranty and repaired free of charge.
If it is out of any warranty, there are "fit-all" compressor starters with start capacitors built in them that give it a little extra boost on start-up. They are called 3-in-1 or kickstart starters. This will usually buy you a few months until you can replace fridge.
If it is covered by warranty but will take a few days to get repaired, you can get by ok by unplugging fridge at night and plugging back in in the morning. This is what I tell my customers when I have to order a compressor and so far they have been able to keep from losing food.
