Hi,
Unfortunatley your answer is within your question, in which you say it only came with Driver Support for Win 98, 2000 & XP, basically meaning that your Camcorder is not compatible with Windows Vista.
The only 3 Possible choices you have are to

1. Use a friend's PC who has XP installed, and Transfer the Files through using their System.

2. Remove Windows Vista, and Install Windows XP

or

3. Wait until your Camcorder is supported by Windows Vista.

I seriously should not wait for Option 3 though, as I've had a Philips Webcam for over 2-3 yrs now, and is still not supported by Windows Vista.

Just use a 4 pin firewire to a 4 pin firewire in the computer don't use a USB port then just use a software program to capture.

Do i need software for jvc mini camcorder model gr-d347u

If you are asking about software for transferring your tape to your computer, your computer should recognize when your camcorder is plugged into it and it will install the appropriate driver.

Attached is a link to the user manual. You will need to refer to the "editing" section. This should have all of the instructions that you need.

Hope this has helped you.

Accidently recorded over important material on a vhs tape. Is there anyway I can retrieve it??

I'm afraid not. When you record, the record heads automatically erase everything that was previously on that tape. So whatever footage was on that tape is gone for good. Sorry!

Transfer movie from mini tape to computer - JVC.....well, hello i found that people have the same problem i do i;ve got this JVC digital camera GR-D770U...and unfirtunately i don't have a software disc...

You can download user manual in PDF format from this link:
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/JVC/GR-D770U-_E
but that's not a point. The point is that you can use any video editing software (with no driver), that accepts capture mode starting from standard Windows Movie Maker for beginners to CyberLink PowerDirector, Ulead DVD MovieFactory or similar. This can be made by plugging your camcorder to PC via USB or FireWire (iLink, IEEE1394). Of course you can record to Digital Video Unit Equipment (DVD recorder) if you have one. Good luck!

JVC GR-DVL310 VISTA DRIVER

Your JVC is a MiniDV camcorder, which uses a Firewire connection for capture. Firewire drivers are standard for all DV camcorders, and built-in on every version of Windows since about Windows 98SE (well, they didn't work very well until Windows 2000).

You still need a capture application to complete the transfer. Most (maybe all) versions of Windows comes with Windows Movie Maker, which is a very basic program, but it can do this.

Normally, a DV camcoder can't be detected by Windows until you have it connected via Firewire, and have it the appropriate mode. On some cameras, this can be play or record (the latter would tranfer live video, or allow recording TO the camera), on others, you need to set the camera to a "link to PC" mode. I currently own Sony and Canon camcorders that both work in the former way, but my first DV camcorder was a JVC, and it did have to put in a "link to PC" mode to be detected by the computer. If you can't find the setting, you might want to check your user manual.

For still photos, it looks like you use a USB connection. I haven't found all the details on this camcorder, but this is likely to be a normal USB "storage class" connection. If so, your camcorder would show up like a disc drive, and you can drag photos over. Vista will support this by default, too.

The other way some older camcorders send photos is to appear to the system as a USB scanner type device. You would need a device driver for this, from JVC.

The user manual would be helpful here. You can get one via download if you don't have it:
