Is there directional grain..? I have removed small imperfection in stainless look by gengtly rubbing only in the same direction as the existing grain.. and be careful sometimes the repair is worse than the issue..
The professionals in order to remove the scratches from st. steel they use special metal wire meshes like soft scotch bride attached on special rotary milling machine. They brush it in the direction of the grooves on the st. steel surface. They start with a hard brush and they reduce the strength until they finalise it as the original finish. If it a brush surface this is more easy than a polished mirror surface. These procedure need experience and care so you will not end up with more damage than the original one.

I left cillit bang on my Whirlpool stainless steel hob. It left a real mess and looked ruined, however I have a solution. You need Astonish cream cleaner, I got mine from the Kleeneasy catalogue, just get a damp cloth and rub gently all over. You might need to do it a few times, wipe it clean with kitchen roll then rub some oil (I used olive but baby oil is good) and it should buff up to a really good finish.
try paint thinners , but before you do any thing you need to call the workman to see what brand of glue he has used.or to come out and clean it off for you or to see if thinners will work , it normally does but when i do resturant kichens out any spillages of glue is removed straight away.you will need to use polish cleaner after the thinners to stop any further marks appearing
