Question about Dell Precision 340 PC Desktop

Dell Precision 340 will not boot past the bios

This dell will not boot past the bios, I have taken out the battery and tried the various jumpers. They did dump the bios and cmos which was reloaded. It hangs up after it loads the adaptec ultra/ultra, there used to be a window where I turned the ultra/ultra off. The window no longer comes up and it will not go into setup or reach a floppy drive.

Thanks for trying, I manually turned off the adaptec unit which is built into the mother board. The computer used to load the adaptec and then a window was available to modify or make changes to it. The window does not get loaded to allow me to turn the unit back on. So it must be initialized via a hook up to the mother board. I may call dell and discuss it with them. This unit has been a piece of **** since the day it got here, was just trying to see if it could be reconfigured with out the dell stuff for a usable system.

It is possible that one of the drives are causing the proble. Disconnect all drives Hard drives, CD, DVD, BLUERAY,Floppy etx and turn the system on if it boots then shut it down and connect the drives one at a time until you find the one at fault.. If this fails then the problem resides in the main board itself, YOu said you cleard the cmos, try reseating the processor (removing and then putting it back) then flashing the bios (clear the cmos) ,, if that fails then you may need to replace the mainboard.

How reset dell precision bios?

You need to find the jumper's located on the motherboard. You can lookup your specific info on http://support.dell.com/ if you know the Service tag, which can be found on the top of the tower.

If this desktop can boot to BIOS properly, then you can download the BIOS file from Dell's website, make a bootable media (using other computer) and use this media to update your T3400 BIOS.

You can try resetting the BIOS via jumper on the motherboard, if not change, try removing all expansion cards other than video see if anything changes.
If no change, replace the motherboard

I have a dell precision 340(400fsb) and have just bought a link it pci usb card to upgrade my usb hubbs to 2.0.The pci card has the gold teeth divided into 3 sections, but the bank for it has only 2.It fits...

Some USB add-on cards do have 3 sets of "teeth", i don't know why. As long as you remember to tighten it down by screwing it in at the expansion slot opening it should be fine. Also remember to disable your onboard 1.0 USB functionality in the bios before booting up and installing drivers for the new card.

Dell 340 will not recognize my cd or dvd drive.

check if you see any light on the drive, if yes. then the power is there and then the problem is with the data cable of the cd drive. try to repalce the cd drive with another cd drive. if it still doesnot work and if the same cables work with the hard drive, then the cd drive has gone bad. and if the new drive also doesnot work then reinstalling the operating system should fix the problem only and only if it appears in the bios. if it doesnot appear in the bios. then the problem is not of the operating system. then its the motherboard.

Boot a Sony DVD RW DRU-840A drive in DELL precision 530

Have you tried changing the boot order.

If you're trying to use it as a boot device you need to tell the system to boot the cd /dvd drive FIRST and of course you need to have a bootable cd / dvd in the drive.

Let me know if you're already tried this.
