The picture is bowed almost like a fish bowl. It started doing this after I moved into my current house. Maybe I shook something loose???

I had a cable guy out to install cable and he said it is adjustable but I cannot seem to figure it out. Is this true? If so do you have any info on how to adjust?

If the resistors need to be replaced is there a how to or should I leave it to the experts. I work with low voltage electronics so I am pretty good with that kinda stuff just a little warry of breaking/damaging something else.

  • tntbenham Nov 29, 2008

Wow that's alot of info. I do use a soldering iron occasionally and a multimeter pretty much every day. I'm gonna open the TV up and take a look to see if I feel comfortable enough to tackle it or not.

i have almost the same problem except my convergence is only off on the blue lamp. the blue wont even move when in the convergence menu. i have just ignored the problem by simply turning the blue lamp almost all the way down> give sort of an antique lens look, but im getting sick of it.

As long as there is no bowing in the picture and the color does not want to move then there is probably just a bad resistor on the convergence IC that controls the color alignment , thus the resistors would have to be tested to find the low valued resistor on the IC

and this will be on the big heat sink with the amp chips labled STK & #'s , but if there are no bad resistors then the chips will have to be replaced

  • jason Nov 28, 2008

well for sure the STK IC's will need replacing when the picture is bowed , here is an example of the STK's http://www.nteinc.com/specs/7100to7199/p...

thanks for rating , but that hurts our rating as only a fixya helps

Also if you cannot solder well and be able to determine resistor values and measurements with a multimeter , you will definatly have problems in try to fix the problem IC's

still need any other assistance? i can help determine and how to , if you can do this repair

I have a Mitsubishi 70 inch model number VS70803 high definition I get sound but I ate my picture it has vertical and horizontal bars in a mix what is wrong with my set and can it be repaired

It's a RPTV and probably the convergence circuits have failed. There is a repair kit for this model you can google for it. Usually costs under $100 and takes a couple of hours of DIY time to do the repairs.

Mitsubishi Rear Projection WS

5ebe434.jpg A projection television and a convergence control method thereof are provided. The projection television, which magnifies images displayed on cathode ray tubes (CRTs) for the colors red, green, and blue using lenses and projects the magnified images onto a screen, includes a convergence control apparatus capable of adjusting the convergence while an input image signal is displayed, the convergence control apparatus including: an image signal decoder which processes the input image signal to generate a data signal, horizontal and vertical synchronous signals, and a start signal indicating the start of either the horizontal or vertical synchronous signal; a convergence control unit which normally projects an image signal output from the image signal decoder onto the screen and performs convergence control using a predetermined region of the screen displaced from a visible region of the screen according to a convergence control command; and a main microcomputer which inputs the convergence control command to the convergence control unit when the start signal is input from the image signal decoder, stops the convergence control when a completion signal is input from the convergence control unit, and performs a control operation to continuously display the image signal during the convergence control.

Mitsubishi VS-50609 - Red convergence is way off, suddenly

You have a bad ground on a convergence IC. You will have to carefully pull this board out and resolder the pins. If this does not solve the problem you will have to replace the ICs. I have saved a few of these TVs with just a resolder job. Thanks for asking!

Yes,the covergence ICs and precision resistors can be replaced to rebuild the area. A reputable shop may charge around $300 . If you are technical person,I can guide you further to do yourself!

Tried to auto adjust the guns, will not come within range

Hi Tod,

If colors do not align correctly, most likely you have a convergence failure. This requires replacement of the 2 STK ICs and possibly some low ohm resistors.

Some Toshiba have a Horizontal oscillator/Drive IC failure that results in a small or shrunk picture (2-3" border on all sides). The 3 colors do not align properly because of the reduced Hor drive signal. The convergence adjust controls will work but not allow good adjustment. Convergence is ok, Hor Drive signal is incorrect.

Many do-it-yourselfers mistake the Hor Drive problem in Toshiba RPTV with convergence failure. Too much adjustment of the convergence controls may cause the saved data to be really messed up and require more difficult alignment in the service mode.

If minor or simple adjustments in the customer convergence adjust menu do not fix your problem, there is a fault. Stop adjusting until fault is repaired

Convergence failure can be accurately identified with the Convergence Gallery on our website. Service in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and other Canada cities.

I have a Mitsubishi RPTV. Everything looks fine except for the blue colors look blurred. I have tried software convergence but the blue still looks blurred and strange. What can I do?

ADJUST THE ELECTRICAL FOCUS. AND THERE IS A MECHANICAL FOCUS ALSO. SET THE ELECTRICAL FOCUS BY LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO THE TUBE AND ADJUST IT SO THE TUBE SURFACE IMAGE IS SHARPEST. THEN LOOKING AT THE REAR OF THE SCREEN ADJUST THE MECHANICAL FOCUS, ON THE LENS UNTIL IT IS SHARPEST. ALSO IT MIGHT NEED A CLEANING OF LENS&MIRROR. DIRT AFFECTS BLUE LIGHT FIRST.

Mits 55908 Convergence problem

Good Day, John;
It sounds like the Convergence IC's have poor solder connections, by re-soldering the convergence output IC's should solve your problem. The IC's are large and mounted to large silver "heat sink" with STK 392 # on them. Good Luck, big IRISH.
