Question about Dometic RM2652 Refrigerator

Unit will not restart and keep unit cold when camping in cold tem

On propane, the unit initially cools, then when camping in cold weather, it does not restart to keep the freezer as cold as it should...nor the fridge. Why should the outside temp hinder the working of the unit?

Just put new batteries in both units but can't get the oudoor temp to show - what have ee done wrong?

Replacement has to be done in a certain order.
  • Remove all batteries
  • Install batteries in outdoor unit. Allow time for unit to initialize and begin transmitting temp.
  • Install batteries in indoor unit. You should see outdoor temperature displayed.

You may find that the outdoor temperature is not transmitted in very cold weather. Right now it is below freezing and my indoor unit is showing - - for outdoor temperature.

Ice forming

  • One cause of this is the compressor is going bad or Freon is low. The freezer is no longer able to achieve the zero temperature requiring the compressor to run continually. The refrigerator because of the continues running begins to freeze up. Food in the refrigerator begins to freeze and the freezer is not as cold as it should. This results in a very expensive repair of replacement of the unit .
  • The defrost cycle is not working. Depending on the conditions the unit has a sensor that detects when the defrost cycle should initiate. If this fails to occur than ice builds up on the coils and air can no longer pass preventing the normal cooling process. Many models use a mechanical timer that stops. On some units the defrost cycle can be initiated via advancing the mechanical timer. This repair is a reasonable expense.
  • The third possibility is a door was left open and the unit iced up the cooling coils. Suggest in that case shut off the unit , remove the food and allow the unit to manually defrost, Restart and see if unit gets cold and defrost cycle is working.

My Samsung RB1855SW refridgerator not cooling

You may just be catching the unit during normal defrost cycles. Next time, allow the unit some time to complete it's needed task. If you allow it 30-minutes, it should restart on it's own. The cycles are necessary to keep the unit working properly. The cycles will be more frequent as the weather warms. If you allow the unit 30-minutes and it does not restart on it's own, then there could be a problem. You might consult the owners manual for more details.

Fujitsu AOU24CL fails to cool towards evening timeframe.

Hi Hal,
Yes the outdoor temperature is defintely affecting your ability to cool with this unit. I have had the same problem with some Mitsubishi units cooling server rooms in banks. Below 0 they don't want to work, the refrigerant shrinks to the point where the system thinks it has lost it's charge and shuts down.
The way to get around it is to either add more charge to the system, which will have to be removed in warmer weather. Not a fun thing to have to dotwice a year....
Or slide cardboard in front of part of the outdoor coil to raise the head pressure slightly... this will also have to be removed in warmer weather to keep the head pressure down enough in warm weather. It is kinda like the truck drivers do to get heat in the cold weather. Only you want to stop some of the heat from escaping and lowering your pressure in your system too much.Partially boxing in the whole unit will also work. A lot of grocery stores will partially box in all of their units in very cold weather...
You will need to see what is the best fix for you, but you have some things you can try now...

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Dometic fridge 'check' light keeps coming on...won't cool

Yes , the check light is there to tell you that your out of gas yes this is true but the device which switches to power is not changing over which will not let the heaters work and will not start the process of cooling, I suggest to inspect the switch and ensure that this is the case first before consulting a mechanic.
