Question about Dometic RM2652 Refrigerator

Unit will not restart and keep unit cold when camping in cold tem

On propane, the unit initially cools, then when camping in cold weather, it does not restart to keep the freezer as cold as it should...nor the fridge. Why should the outside temp hinder the working of the unit?

Ice forming

  • One cause of this is the compressor is going bad or Freon is low. The freezer is no longer able to achieve the zero temperature requiring the compressor to run continually. The refrigerator because of the continues running begins to freeze up. Food in the refrigerator begins to freeze and the freezer is not as cold as it should. This results in a very expensive repair of replacement of the unit .
  • The defrost cycle is not working. Depending on the conditions the unit has a sensor that detects when the defrost cycle should initiate. If this fails to occur than ice builds up on the coils and air can no longer pass preventing the normal cooling process. Many models use a mechanical timer that stops. On some units the defrost cycle can be initiated via advancing the mechanical timer. This repair is a reasonable expense.
  • The third possibility is a door was left open and the unit iced up the cooling coils. Suggest in that case shut off the unit , remove the food and allow the unit to manually defrost, Restart and see if unit gets cold and defrost cycle is working.

Refrigerator not cooling on electricty or gas

You will first want to ensure the RV is level.
If the RV is level, then open the rear access vent door on the side of the RV to access the rear of the refrigerator. Feel the coils just above the tank on the cooling system. These coils should be warm to the touch. If they are warm and the refrigerator is not cooling then you will require a replacement cooling unit. Also, the most common area for the Dometic 2652 to leak is just above the propane burner area. If it has leaked, you should see a yellow residue in that area. The cooling unit can be changed in approximately 2-3 hours with no specialized tools needed (Arcticold offers 7 day a week free tech support). The old cooling unit will simply unbolt and the new one bolts in. Check out ArctiCold Refrigeration We keep it cold (the highest quality product available) Arcticold New Cooling units come standard with a Lifetime Warranty. Install instructions are also provided with the cooling unit. Arcticold has locations across North America to provide fast delivery. I have a Dometic fridge model number RM2612 in a camper that i just purchased used and the fridge isn't cooling. The freezer section seems to be okay. The metal plate in the freezer gets cold but

Make sure it is level, has proper airflow out through top vent. Also check baffle, or stack where flame sits under and blow it out good with compressed air to make sure it's clean. If you smell a hint or strong smell of ammonia, shut it off, it has a leak in cooling unit. If all ok in that area, shut it off, disconnect and plug propane line, disconnect power and remove the fridge. Turn the fridge upside down for a day or 2, then re-install and let it sit 24 hrs before turning it back on. Quite often that will take care of any blockage in flow of cooling liquid, and get things back to normal if cooling unit is still good.

Freezer works fine but refridgerator does not see to get cold enough

While the thermoster is the most likely cause, since it is a propane/AC unit that use ammonia as the cooling medium, that is usually installed in an RV. There are more things to consider. First, you need to check it on both propane and AC to see if it acts better on one than the other. Second, you need to make sure that you are level and not parked on an incline. This allows ammonia accumulation in the tubes and can impact its ability to cool. Third, you should check for corrosion on the terminals of the two control boards. Any of these things can impact the cooling abilities of your unit.

My Samsung RB1855SW refridgerator not cooling

You may just be catching the unit during normal defrost cycles. Next time, allow the unit some time to complete it's needed task. If you allow it 30-minutes, it should restart on it's own. The cycles are necessary to keep the unit working properly. The cycles will be more frequent as the weather warms. If you allow the unit 30-minutes and it does not restart on it's own, then there could be a problem. You might consult the owners manual for more details.

I have the same problem with my extra fridge in the garage. It has to do with the oil used as a refrigerant in newer models. The cold temprature thickens the oil and it stops cooling. Nothing you can do about it other than opening the door to the fridge to warm the insides up. It works for me. And thank god it's only when it gets very cold outside that this happens. Ps...my garage is insulated and drywalled and it still occors during cold spells.

Dometic fridge 'check' light keeps coming on...won't cool

Yes , the check light is there to tell you that your out of gas yes this is true but the device which switches to power is not changing over which will not let the heaters work and will not start the process of cooling, I suggest to inspect the switch and ensure that this is the case first before consulting a mechanic.
